PPZ: Dawn of the Dreadfuls Book Trailer

The sequel to the book Pride and Prejudice Zombies is almost here and the book trailer is pretty cool.  They should go straight to the making of the movie.   English accents, pretty white dresses and Zombies, a perfect combination.  Just add Natalie Portman and Clive Owen and I will be first in line.   I posted the trailer of Dawn of the Dreadfuls here for your enjoyment.  Zombies beware…. the Bennet girls are ready!  Are You?

Here is more abou the book which releases on March 23rd.   ”Readers will witness the birth of a heroine in Dawn of the Dreadfuls--a thrilling prequel set four years before the horrific events of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. As our story opens, the Bennet sisters are enjoying a peaceful life in the English country side. They idle away the days reading, gardening, and daydreaming about future husbands--until a funeral at the local parish goes strangely and horribly awry.”

If you are like me and you like to read books and add them to your collection, but you are on a budget, finding the best prices on books is pretty important. While there are tons of resources online that you can use to find bargain books, I wanted to point out just a few places you can go that offer good book prices on both new and used books. I’ll periodically update this feature when I come across new sites where you can find good prices on books. Feel free to add comments and share your own personal favorite bookstores that offer good book prices.

While there are some basic sites that offer book price comparisons, or price comparisons on products in general, I am going to highlight sites that are focused on offering the best prices on books. These companies and sites offer books for sale either through joining a book club, with discount books and deals, or with other types of retail book sales.

Here is a selection of top booksellers that offer the best prices on books:

Amazon.com – Obviously, most people are familiar with the opportunities to find good values on products through this large online retailer. Products include Amazon direct items and third party seller options. You can often find great deals on new and used books, usually well below retail store prices.

BooksOnline.com – This is a unique club based bookseller that offers you the opportunity sign up for book clubs to take advantage of value-oriented deals. It is effectively a club and book deal site with some nice opportunities for people that like long-term value with book clubs.

Thriftbooks.com – I wanted to throw in a used books focused store among this list of companies that have the best prices on books in order to give you some variety. This come sells a large volume of used books through a marketplace setup. There are many great deals available, with many books listed an offered well below the current prices listed at Amazon. In fact, this site lists its books and references its lowest price opportunities compared to those on Amazon.

Alibris.com – This is a very cool site that sells several types of products, but books of all types (including textbooks) are its focus. According to the site, there are over 1 million items listed. Its marketing concept is that it is the “world’s largest book fair”. Books are available for sale from independent sellers worldwide, and if you search, you can often find great discount coupons and promo opportunities.

These are just a few of the top places online to go if you like to buy and collect books but you need to find the best prices on books to stay within your budget! Feel free to share your other favorite resources below. I’ll add more as I come across them!

Disclaimer: While this site is an affiliate of at least one of these companies, there are currently no affiliate links in place within this feature. I’ll let you know if this changes.

Twilight Graphic Novel Coming

July 15, 2009 by Tracy

For those of you who can’t get enough Edward and Bella, EW announced  on their website that Yen Press will be publishing Twilight in graphic-novel form, publication date still to be determined. Though Korean artist Young Kim is creating the art, Stephenie Meyer herself will be reviewing every panel.

The manga-style adaptation of Meyer’s books sounds, from the story’s description, as if it will be a straight words-to-comics of existing stories, but there is no word yet on how many books are currently planned. At least for now, though, everyone asking has their answer.

Nevertheless, this announcement will likely be a hot topic when “Twilight” fans descend on Hall H next Thursday for the “Twilight: New Moon” panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Since that room is going to be packed with a hybrid crowd of “Twilight” and comics fans, you can bet these new books will be on a lot of minds.

What do you think of the artist rendering above?  Overload or will you buy it?

Leslie Patricelli Book Review

Have you heard of Leslie Patricelli?  She is a talented author and illustrator of children’s books that I think your children would enjoy.  Team Mom sent two of her books for review.  You can purchase them on Amazon or www.candlewick.com
“Baby Happy Baby Sad”. This book is a board book and would be good for babies and toddlers.  The pictures are colorful and very expressive. As you guessed from the title, each page shows either a happy baby moment or a sad baby moment. Very cute!
The second book was a big hit with my five year old.  We have read it numerous times already.  In the book, “Higher! Higher!”, there is a little girl on a swing asking her father to push her higher and higher. With each new page, we see just how high she goes (or how high her imagination takes her). With vivid colors and very expressive pictures, “Higher! Higher” is a book that any child would enjoy.

Leslie Patricelli is the author and the illustrator of her books. Her titles include:
Binky, Blankie
BIG Little
Quiet LOUD
Yummy YUCKY
The Birthday Box
Baby Happy Baby Sad
Higher! Higher!

I See Me Personalized Book Giveaway

iseeme

I remember one of the first books that had the biggest impact on me was a personalized book about me at a circus. I was enthralled that I was special enough to have my own book.  I couldn’t believe my brother’s name was even it the book.

I am so excited to have the chance to not only get a personalized book for my son, but participate in the creation. I See Me is a wonderful company and website where you can order personalized gifts for children. Their newest book is The World According To (YOUR CHILD)

This beautifully printed book features your child’s own drawings and classic comments. The kit includes interview questions that the parent asks the child, such as what he/she wants to be when he/she grows up, the child’s favorite things, and more.  The kit also includes color markers and drawing sheets for the child to do 6 drawings, including a self-portrait and a drawing of the family.  The parent sends the interview answers and drawings to I See Me! in the enclosed postpaid envelope. Three weeks later, a colorful, professionally typeset book arrives, ready for all-about-me story time!  The new kit/book makes it very easy for parents to document this precious stage in their child’s life. It’s for children ages 3-10.

You can take a virtual tour of the book to see if you want to buy it first. We have been busy answering the questions and making the drawings for his book. The instructions are so easy to follow, and making the book together is a special time to share with your child. I can’t wait until we get it back so I can see the look on his face. This book will be a treasure for years to come. The sample book they sent looks professional, much more realistic then when I was little. I am very impressed. You can order the kit for $39.95 and other personalized items at www.iseeme.com.

The Terror by Dan Simmons Book Giveaway

February 18, 2009 by Tracy

Synopsis from Publisher (Hachette)

“Dan Simmons writes with the salty grace and precision of Patrick O’Brian. But in piling supernatural nightmare upon historical nightmare, layering mystery upon mystery, he has produced a turbocharged vision of popular doom.” -Men’s Journal

Greeted with excited critical praise, this extraordinary novel-inspired by the true story of two ice ships that disappeared in the Arctic Circle during an 1845 expedition-swells with the heart-stopping suspense and heroic adventure that have won Dan Simmons praise as “a writer who not only makes big promises but keeps them” (Seattle Post-Intelligencer). THE TERROR chills readers to the core.

“Brutal, relentless, yet oddly uplifting, THE TERROR is a masterfully chilling work.” -Entertainment Weekly

“In the hands of a lesser writer than Dan Simmons, THE TERROR might well have dissolved into a series of frigid days and three-dog nights. But Simmons is too good a writer to ignore the real gold in his story-its beleaguered cast.” -Bookpage

“Guaranteed to have readers pulling their covers up to their noses, THE TERROR will make for a blood-freezing, bedtime read this winter-and any season thereafter.” -Pages

I LOVED this book! I read it last year and it was so gripping and crazy that the 992 pages flew by. I even wanted it to be longer, if you can believe that. I am very excited to read Dan Simmons new book Drood, which is fictional account of Charles Dickens. You can read more about it here.

I am so excited that the generous Hachette Book Group wants to give away FIVE copies of The Terror! If you don’t win, I highly recommend it and it is out in paperback at a great price on Amazon.
