My Way to Making Friends

Elizabeth Cole  Illustrated by Tatyana KimWhat would we do if we did not make friends?  Elizabeth Cole has written a children’s picture book that teaches this important skill that we all need to know.  This book is entitled ‘My Way to Making Friends’.  This is the story of a little girl named Melissa, who happens to be a very shy little girl.  She goes to the playground and tries to join in, but Making Friendsthings seem to go wrong.  She seems to think that she only has one friend in the world and that is her Teddy bear.  Melissa has a dream along with her teddy bear and learns more about herself.  Elizabeth Cole has written a children’s story that is a first in a series of books that teaches children and adults specific life skills we all need to learn and remember.  She has chosen dark black typeface so that the words can be easily read against the vivid colors of the pictures drawn by Tatyana.  At the end of the story Elizabeth has included a checklist that a child can color when a specific skill has been accomplished.  There is a letter on the last page to the children that will make them feel important.  There is a barcode that allows the readers to get a coloring page to instill the skills from the book.  I enjoyed all the pictures of this book for they tell the story even if there were no words.
