Adults should read this book as well for themselves as well as to help their children.  Elizabeth Cole has written a picture book for young readers entitled ‘Mindfulness Makes Me Stronger’.  This is the story of a little boy named Nick and how he felt one day and missing a lot.  Nick seems to have to learn to be more observant of what is around him and not to worry about various things.  Now Nick does not feel good about himself and wonders why and has to figure out what is wrong.  Elizabeth Cole in this fifth in a series of children’s stories created a story that adults could learn from as well.  Once again, she wrote a story that is helpful in learning about oneself both physically and mentally.  She has also chosen the bold typeface along with using vivid colors for the pictures to make this an enjoyable read.  Throughout this book there are many lessons that a teacher of young children can devise from a lesson on the senses to a movement exercise to a few more lessons or activities.  ‘Mindfulness’ is a skill that can be hard to accomplish for some, but one must have patience as Nick’s dad has.  My favorite picture was when Nick is in the nursery with his baby sister and he notices something, but all the pictures were great.


When little Nick starts to miss everything that happens around him, his dad teaches him to deal with worries in a fun and playful way. By using kids’ breathing techniques and other helpful tips, Nick learns to control his big feelings and becomes mindful.

This picture book is suitable for preschool kids as well as children ages 6-10, it contains lovely hand-drawn illustrations and charming rhymes. With an extra coloring page inside, this book will help your children:

  • to use their senses and meditation in order to get rid of anxiety.
