In The Dream House  A Memoir

Carmen Maria Machado

What a different world she lives in presently and her past.  ‘In The Dream House A Memoir’ by Carmen Maria In the dream houseMachado she tells her story of a few life choices that she has made over her lifetime of ‘living’ her own life. A subject matter that some might find upsetting or disturbing . A same-sex abusive relationship . Carmen made friends and lovers over her time on earth and still going strong, as well as her various issues that she and her ‘friends’ must work their way through to find closure and acceptance from their childhood choices to their adult choices that they made and make in the present for the future.

‘In The Dream House AMemoir‘ is a book that uses language that only adults should see, but with the life that Carmen has led and is now living the language could be acceptable for adult readers.

This is a book that could be used by counselors and social workers, who work with the LGBT&Q communities.  The footnotes throughout the book were a help to further understand the choices that she has made and is still making.  The way  Machado formatted her chapters in this memoir was interesting with all of the references and footnotes.

‘In The Dream House’ is a book of choosing a preferred lifestyle that makes one happy.  It is a somewhat quick read with its’ short chapters as well as written in journal format.  One recommendation that I would give Carmen was there another word that you could have used instead of the one four letter word (f***).  This is definitely an adult read of for college students trying to see where they fit in with making various friends and relationships
