Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 38
Ok so “Writers of the Future”
What is it?
The Writers of the Future is a great reading resource for creating writing.
A mere 38 years ago, L. Ron Hubbard (the author of the science fiction classic Battlefield Earth) started a contest to help discover new authors. The judges are professional authors, like Brandon Sanderson, Nnedi Okorafor, Orson Scott Card, and more.
The contest is free to enter and judged blind, giving each author and illustrator an equal opportunity to win no matter their gender, race, or age. How cool is that??
The newest book, volume 38 also has some amazing extras: a rare short story by Frank Herbert the author of Dune, (we were also a judge!), L. Ron Hubbard, and David Farland as well as articles with tips for new writers. The writing advice includes a rare article by Frank Herbert.
With 25 award-winning authors and illustrators, this collection is a masterwork.
I love these great diverse stories filled with wonder and new ideas. There are some great #scifi short stories here.
If you like a book of short stories this is a great choice. Especially if you are looking for new aspiring authors. Although not just authors. There are also great new illustrations to accompany these stories. Also by newer artists. Here is a look at a few:
- It’s game on, the fate of the universe is on the line—and you’re about to go all in.
- Saving the mammoths is in your hands—can you conjure the magic to make it happen?
- You’ve got a monster BFF (that manifested when your brother was killed) —whom you’re hiding from your own monster-hunting family. I think this is my favorite.
- You’re part of a sting, out to catch some bar hoppers who are bending their elbows and bending time as well.
- And much more!
And for new writers, how would you like to know Frank Herbert’s “Single Most Important Piece of Advice?”
You’ll love this collection from past and future science fiction masters, because these stories are hand-picked by some of your favorite authors—including Brandon Sanderson, Orson Scott Card, Nnedi Okorafor, Robert J. Sawyer, and Jody Lynn Nye.
Here is one of the reviews:
“Writers of the Future Vol 38 is a literary smorgasbord where each new story comes with a feeling of excitement and mystery. With so many short stories, one might imagine it easy to put down between breaks; instead, it’s a binge read. Just one more, you think, and the next thing you know the entire book is gone!
“The illustrations alone make Writers of the Future Vol. 38 worth every single penny and minute spent!
“I truly enjoyed it. As each story comes up you never quite know what you’re going to get, and it’s so delightful finding out.” –International Review of Books
So give these new authors a shot. Who knows, you may just find your next favorite author! We all need that next book fix!
