Don’t Ever Look Behind Door 32 is about a total mystery. A picture book for preschool and elementary children who likes puzzles to solve.  The one puzzle is what is behind Door 32.  The story of a man giving a tour of his hotel.  The owner gives minute descriptions of each of his rooms at the Hotel of Hoo.  The character of Mr. Nicholas Noo states that you are very welcome, but as the title states ‘Don’t Ever Look Behind Door 32’.
This is a great book and a good read for young children learning how to read pictures, practice their counting skills as well as learning to follow rules.  The pictures were fantastic and made me look forward to more till the end of the book.  Lenny, the illustrator, has chosen colors and hues to make the reader think about the differences in each of the rooms.  Teachers could start at the beginning of the reading session and pose a question to the children like ‘What could be around the house?’ or ‘Why do you suppose Mr. Noo does not want them to look behind Door 32?’ A math lesson could be to have each child come up and count each of the characters on each page.  Maybe teachers could create an arts and crafts projects by making puppets and then as a language/drama activity put on a puppet show for other classes.  This is a preschool level picture book that is full of surprises for all readers.  There could also be a cultural lesson on how all the characters in the various rooms seem to get along with themselves and the other groups in the hotel and maybe readers could compare and contrast the groups presented.
