Confessions of a Prodigal Son I was recently given a copy of this film to watch and was asked to review it. Ok , so I did and I will. First of all let me say this. Confessions of a Prodigal Son is most definitely a “Family Christian” based film . The makers of this film obviously had a story to tell and wanted to keep it clean. They did a good job with the underlying theme of the movie . You see the main character Sean act very irresponsibly with his money as he runs through it wastefully (he does however give $40 to a homeless guy) a side note here for a sec. I think this might be my favorite line of the movie.Sean and his “loser” buddy are walking down the street and come across a homeless guy asking for money.Sean pulls out a wad and hands over $40. His wide-eyed friend says are you crazy he’s just going to spend it on Booze. Sean’s retort to that “isn’t that what we’re going to do?” Back to my thoughts of the movie now. Like I said they do a good job getting the message of the film across but to tell the truth I had to force my self through the first 10-15 minute of it. This is mainly because of the acting ability off these folks (Streep has nothing to worry about here) BUT I’m glad I stuck with it.The acting seems to get better when the “Girl” enters the picture. She does a good job at trying to steer the Prodigal Son in the right direction. Kevin Sorbo also does a good job with his small part as the Dad who also happens to be a Pastor. The classic story of a son leaving home. Throwing the values he was raised with aside he tries to make it on his own.He seems to be very smart , does good at college but just make too many dumb decisions. He also gets mixed up with the wrong people or person.(The previously mentioned Loser buddy) I think this is a film that was made for young kids to watch.Being very PG rated with no bad language unless you feel offended by “What the H” as opposed to Hell. No sex but there are is a scene when the “Buddy” and his girlfriend are making pancakes in the morning.Hhhmmmmmmmmm? We also have a lot of beer drinking in the college dorms .Gotta have a little realism. All in all this film has a very good message for kids and as your watching it you can see the main character Sean wrestling with his Ideals like the old cartoons with the good and bad angels on the shoulders. Some of the things the “Buddy” says you can see Sean just does not agree with. One instance is when he’s talking to Sean about “Chicks”. You can tell he does not like the way his friend disrespects girls. Check this one out and just accept it for what it is. A nice family film about making the right choices. Prodigal Son Facebook Page
