this book Eva builds a bond with Fury, her gryphon. A story of building risk and trying to resolve more issues of family and country that the Smelterborn wants. On page 40 the battles begin and in the first paragraph the quote sets the stage for what is about to happen and on page 95 the characters are starting to feel the pain of coming war and the sorrows and victories that may occur during battles.
Derek has written a story that is gripping and enjoyable to not just read, but to savor each page and begin to understand the characters in a more detailed personage. ‘Windswept’ is a story of finding out what family is all about.
Classroom teachers could use this book to teach the skills of comparison and contrast between the different series as mentioned from Book One between ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and the ‘Narnia Chronicles’ characters and scenes. Book two is describing the beginning battles and how the characters feel about going and/or continuing to fight for what they want. ‘Windswept’ is the book that shows the various relationships as they continue to develop more fully. ‘Windswept’ is the volume that is about further understanding of what is happening.
The Summary
After proving herself to the Windsworn, forging a bond with her gryphon, Fury, and discovering the truth about her parentage, Eva thought life would get easier. Instead, war is blossoming on the eastern frontier. And raiders on giant sabercats might only be a shadow of worse things to come.
If that weren’t enough, a captured enemy reveals a startling truth: Eva’s long-lost father is still alive.
Against direct orders, Eva and her friends desert the Windsworn, risking everything to bring her father home. Eva and Fury have come a long way in a short time, but beyond the mountains, danger lurks at every turn. Will Eva sacrifice everything she holds dear for a man she’s never met?
