Twilight Graphic Novel Coming
July 15, 2009 by Tracy

For those of you who can’t get enough Edward and Bella, EW announced on their website that Yen Press will be publishing Twilight in graphic-novel form, publication date still to be determined. Though Korean artist Young Kim is creating the art, Stephenie Meyer herself will be reviewing every panel.
The manga-style adaptation of Meyer’s books sounds, from the story’s description, as if it will be a straight words-to-comics of existing stories, but there is no word yet on how many books are currently planned. At least for now, though, everyone asking has their answer.
Nevertheless, this announcement will likely be a hot topic when “Twilight” fans descend on Hall H next Thursday for the “Twilight: New Moon” panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Since that room is going to be packed with a hybrid crowd of “Twilight” and comics fans, you can bet these new books will be on a lot of minds.
What do you think of the artist rendering above? Overload or will you buy it?
Taylor Lautner Weight Gain Picture and New Moon News
Latest Twilight News:

New Moon star Tayor Lautner looks like he accomplished the task of gaining weight in time to start filming New Moon coming up in March. My question though is more from a “mom” concern. Is it healthy for a 16 year old boy to do this so quickly?

New Moon official logo released this week. A couple of articles discussing Eclipse Movie release dates (June 30,2010) and summary already! Mtv.com and ew.com Chris Weitz won’t direct.
New Twilight Books Coming Soon. Catherine Hardwicke Twilight Directors Notebook and The Twilight Saga: Official Guide . Stephenie started a new official website called The Twilight Saga. And of course the Twilight DVD release date is March 21st!

Jackson Rathbone, who plays Jasper has been a popular search on my site, so this if for those fans.

Stephenie Meyer recommends The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria Forester on her site, her last recommendation was The Hunger Games and I loved it.

Fans of Twilight are so creative and talented, here are a few Fan-made posters of New Moon

The CW is capitalizing on the Twilight popularity. They reportably picked up a pilot based on L.J. Smith’s book series, Vampire Diaries. The first book of the series was originally published in 1993. The books revolve around a young lady who is torn between two vampire brothers, one good and the other evil. The brothers battle for her soul, and the souls of her small town friends and family. Sounds good! Have any of you read it? I’m curious what you thought of it.

Latest Robert Pattinson picture to tide you girls over! He is in L.A. And will present at the Oscars tomorrow night with Kristen Stewart.

Taylor Lautner’s Weight Gain for New Moon (pictures)
I’m sure you’ve heard the news by now that Taylor Lautner, who played Jacob in Twilight will be back to play Jacob in New Moon despite the fact he is physically not a match for the character’s size in the book. Jacob in New Moon grows to age 25 and 6 feet 5 inches. Taylor is 16 and much shorter. Apparently he says he has bulked up 19 pounds already and plans to put on 10 more before shooting begins. As far as his height, the rumor is they will use special effects. Below are pictures of Taylor from before he put on the weight and the latest picture is him at an event where he told a reporter he had put on the 19 pounds. What do you think? Does he look bigger? Do you think he can pull it off? By the way, I do think he is an adorable actor. Also below is the statement from Stephenie Meyer’s website.

Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:
I’m very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he’s doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie’s books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I’m looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.
very best
Chris Weitz
I’d just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I’m truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I’m very much looking forward to seeing what he’s going to bring to Jacob’s character this year.

YA Monday: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

WHAT THIS BOOK IS ABOUT
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival.
THEMES IN THIS BOOK
MY REVIEW
Suzanne Collins is the new Stephenie Meyer in my book. Hunger Games is the first in an upcoming series of an amazing story. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world, in which a corrupt government keeps it citizens impoverished and subdued. The government forces the districts to give up their youth (one boy & one girl) once a year to the Hunger Games. There can only be one winner in the Hunger Games, so the children are forced to kill each other until only one is left. The story is told through the eyes of Katniss a young girl from the 12th district. After her sister is selected to be `tribute’ in the televised bloodsport, Kat volunteers to take her place. Also selected is Peeta who will become an ally to Katniss. The teenagers are helped to enhance their skills, dressed elegantly and paraded around and then dumped to fight to the death, with cameras following their every move, for the delight of the country. Remind you of anything? The movie Running Man came to mind while I was reading Hunger Games. What I loved about this book was the way I was immediately caught up in Katniss’ story. Her struggle to survive even before the Hunger Games and her strength and wits throughout the battle is inspiring. She is a strong character for young girls to read about and enjoy. The romance was another factor that kept me glued to the page. I would say this is a PG 13 for a YA book because of the subject matter of the brutal games. The romance was PG which was nice to see. I am looking forward to her next book in the series and I highly recommend this book to fill in the Twilight gap now that that series has ended.

Book Coveting Hunger Games
I love the new American Library Association’s Read Poster. Whatcha think? Also Stephenie Meyer is raving about the fact her new favorite book is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Presenting Lenore just raved about it herself here. There seems to be a big buzz about this book because Stephen King also mentioned it in Entertainment Weekly. This is another one for my must read list! You can click on the book title to read the synopsis.
Twilight Movie Reshoots: Why are they filming again?
Thought everyone would enjoy some fun news about Stephenie Meyer after the Midnight Sun controversy. The Twilight movie is in the midst of some re-shoots and Entertainment Weekly has the scoop.
| by Nicole Sperling
Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke confirms to EW.com that she’s currently overseeing reshoots on her adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s book (now opening Nov. 21). “It’s pretty cool,” Hardwicke e-mails from Pasadena, Calif., where she’s filming the new material. “We got to shoot some things I really wanted.” While reshoots often hint that there may be a problem with a movie, that doesn’t appear to be the case with Twilight, whose initial 44-day Oregon production faced multiple weather-related difficulties.
Thus, a few key aspects of the production are getting further attention. One redone scene shows Edward (Robert Pattinson) playing Bella’s lullaby. During the movie’s initial shoot, Pattinson performed the scene while improvising with his own music; now he’s playing the actual song, which has been written by veteran film composer Carter Burwell (best known for working with the Coen brothers). “[Pattinson] is a great pianist, long vampire fingers,” Hardwicke says. And if that doesn’t whet your appetite, Hardwicke also reshot the bedroom kissing scene on Thursday. The first time around, Kristen Stewart, the actress who plays Bella, was still 17, and between juggling three hours of school work per day plus numerous camera setups, the scene was never finished. Hardwicke also shot a few new scenes: more of Jacob, more on the Cullens’ backstory, and more footage in the meadow. Says the director, “It’s all just icing on the cake.”
Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer Leaked on Internet

Maw Books pointed out on her site about the situation with Stephenie Meyer and I wanted to discuss it here as well. Stephenie Meyer is a successful author on the scale of almost a rock star status. That is rare in the literary world. Her first book Twilight and the books that followed have a rampant teen following. The book she was currently working on is called Midnight Sun and is supposed to be a companion to Twilight but told through the eyes of Edward, the vampire. Stephenie’s hope was it would “give you further insight into Edward’s head and add a dimension to the Twilight story.” Unfortunately according to her statement on her site a partial incomplete draft was released and is making the rounds on the internet. As a result Stephenie “feels her heart is no longer in writing Midnight Sun and she will be moving on to other projects.” If you want to read the partially completed rough draft, Stephenie has put it on her own website and hopes everyone will read it instead of of the leaked draft. If you want to read Midnight Sun I encourage you to click here to read the version she put up. I am sure it is much better then the other since she clearly states the writing is messy, flawed and full of mistakes. You can read her statement here. What do you think of this situation? Were you looking forward to Midnight Sun? Do you plan on reading the Rough Draft and if so what are your thoughts?

Did you know you could already read the first chapter of Stephenie Meyer’s new book Midnight Sun about Edward? Are you as excited to read it after reading Breaking Dawn? I am excited to read a book from his point of view and I hope it will be as good as Twilight. Here is what Stephenie has to say about it from her blog: I also posted the link to the first chapter below:
http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/pdf/midnightsun_chapter1.pdf

Midnight Sun is an exercise in character development that got wildly out of hand (as do many of my projects).
While I was procrastinating some real editing work (I’m always at my most creative when procrastinating), I started to wonder how the first chapter of Twilight would read if it were written from Edward’s perspective. There is so much more to his side of the story than there is to Bella’s in that first chapter. After all, Bella only knows that an incredibly gorgeous boy is looking at her funny. Meanwhile, Edward is suffering through one of the most momentous days of his very long life! First there’s the shock and frustration of not being able to hear Bella’s thoughts, then the wild, monstrous reaction to her scent, followed by the incredible expenditure of self-control that it takes to not kill her… His side of Bella’s first day at Forks High School is a hundred times more exciting than her own.
Though I didn’t have time to work on it right away, the idea of letting Edward have his chance to speak stuck with me. I couldn’t shake it. I found myself thinking his words in the middle of the night and jotting down phrases he would use while I was waiting in line at the post office. As soon as I finished my real work, I sat down and let Edward get his say.
Writing chapter one, “First Sight,” from Edward’s point of view was an exciting experience; I actually had my pulse racing as I typed. When I finished, I was truly pleased with my creation. Here was the other side of the story that no one knew. Here was the truth of what Edward had been through. I felt like I knew my Edward even better, and I was sure his dialogue would be more insightful in future novels. The end. Exercise over.
Ha ha. It wasn’t long before I was thinking about Edward in Alaska, Edward upon his return to Forks, Edward’s side of that fateful conversation in Biology… Chapter two started to write itself in my head, while I kept telling myself that I didn’t have time to write a book for fun when I had real books to write. (My mother seconded that opinion—she thinks I work too hard).
But when a story demands to be written, there’s no way to resist. And the more I wrote, the more I became convinced that Edward deserved to have his story told. At first I was planning to post it all here on my website, but I changed my mind for two reasons, the most important being that Edward’s version is much longer than Bella’s—Edward over-thinks everything. I’m not even half way done, and the page count is near three hundred. The second reason that I changed my mind is a little bit silly—I just would really love to have a pretty, matching, bound version of Midnight Sun to put beside Twilight on top of my desk. So I’m going to try to have it published as a complementary novel to Twilight. It will take a while, because I can only work on it between editing stints, but I hope that someday I’ll be able to see Midnight Sun on the bookstore shelves next to Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and etc… (Fueling my belief that Midnight Sun is worthy of publishing is my mother’s about face—after reading the first eleven chapters, she thinks it’s magic and says I should go for it.)
And here I was going to write just a short paragraph of introduction. You see what I mean about things getting out of hand?
Because I just can’t wait out the years it will take to reach publication for people to begin to understand Edward, here is my original character development exercise, Edward’s version of Bella’s first day at Forks High School, the first chapter of Midnight Sun*:
