We were excited about a chance to work with Mead to help promote their Writing Fundamentals line of preschool to early school activity books. Built on the premise tha tkids develop pre-academic writing skills before they actually learn to write, these fun and educational activity books are a perfect fit for our preciouse six year old writer.
Nolan loves to write and has been use the activity books ambitously. Each book has drawing, writing and reading activities that are easy to understand and fun to do. Your child will also develop effective writing and drawing talents that will carry him or her into early school years.
More about the Mead Writing Fundamentals Books
As parents keep kids’ academic skills in check this summer with flashcards and reading materials, experts say they should consider brushing up on another important skill – handwriting.
Developing writing skills is half the battle of literacy, but while it is equally important to develop writing skills as it is to develop reading skills, writing isn’t always sufficiently covered in school. In fact, as little as 10 minutes a day is spent on the subject and typically no instruction is provided past the third grade, leaving as many as 20 percent of children struggling with handwriting.
Mead Writing Fundamentals is a line of fun, multi-sensory products designed to bridge the gap.
Many parents don’t realize handwriting development begins well before pencil hits paper. Activities that build eye-hand coordination, introduce pre-writing shapes and focus on multi-sensory skills lay the foundation for successful handwriting. Fittingly, that’s how this progressive line is structured.
Developed in conjunction with a pediatric occupational therapist who specializes in handwriting, the line is divided into four stages based on age and developmental skills. It begins with cutting activities, dot-to-dot projects and coloring exercises that begin eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills. Subsequent products/stages then focus on formal handwriting instruction, including letter formation through tracing and writing practice on paper with raised lines.

I would love to win this because they do not teach handwriting in my son’s school at all! They are allowed to make the letters however they want and it tends to end up promoting sloppy work. These look like they would be great for working on it at home!
