This is book one of the series ‘Winds of Fire’. This is the story of Sheetal and how she adapts to being part of an arranged marriage. She loves another but family comes first and follows the rules of society and history. Anju Gattani has written a story that illustrates what it is like to live under rules that have not changed for centuries. She gives the reader a chance to see in a way what the Indian culture of Indian life is like from the planning of a wedding and learning to live in a new family and their rules of living and dealing with the choices they made and the acceptance thereof. Anju has included at the end of the book a series of questions that could be used as part of a book discussion. This novel could also be used as a supplemental read for students who are studying to be Marriage and Family counselors or maybe social workers. The cover art does give a good visual representation of the main character and how colorful the Indian (Inda) culture may be past and present. Cannot wait to see what happens in book two for I read the first few pages that were offered clearly at the end of this one.
