Healthy Choice All Natural Entrees

There aren’t very many frozen foods meals that I like, but I have tried and enjoyed Healthy Choice Meals in the past. Healthy Choice has taken a fresh approach to healthy eating, which does not include counting calories or being on a diet. This year Healthy Choice introduced a fresh new look, along with reinvented and contemporary recipes, meals with positive nutrition and new all natural entrées, to make your meal decisions easy, and give you the great taste you crave and the nutrition your body needs.

The new line of Healthy Choice All Natural Entrées is filled with protein, whole grains, fiber and antioxidants to help promote heart and digestive health, all without preservatives, artificial flavors or colors, so that you can feel good about the food you eat and serve to your family.

Thanks to Mom Central I was able to attend a conference call with Dr. Rippe of Rippe Health. Dr. Rippe was discussing his findings on a healthy study he conducted including Healthy Choice products.

We know that healthier eating and being physically active are key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but when pressed for time, it’s a challenge to achieve and maintain such a lifestyle,” said study author Dr. Rippe. “These findings are important because they show in a long-term study that Healthy Choice products offer the convenience and nutrition people are seeking to help them reach their goals.

Upon concluding his 6 month study with overweight men and women, his findings showed that those who followed a plan centered on eating Healthy Choice products every day and also starting a simple walking program were reported to have had significant positive changes occur. The group lost an average of 18 lbs and 3 inches off their waistline in just 24 weeks.

The new natural entrees listed on their website look impressive and I can’t wait to try some. I like the convenience factor and the variety they offer. Thanks to Mom Central for the information and head on over to the Healthy Choice website to see what you think.

Leslie Patricelli Book Review

April 7, 2009 by Tracy

Have you heard of Leslie Patricelli?  She is a talented author and illustrator of children’s books that I think your children would enjoy.  Team Mom sent two of her books for review.  You can purchase them on Amazon or www.candlewick.com
“Baby Happy Baby Sad”. This book is a board book and would be good for babies and toddlers.  The pictures are colorful and very expressive. As you guessed from the title, each page shows either a happy baby moment or a sad baby moment. Very cute!
The second book was a big hit with my five year old.  We have read it numerous times already.  In the book, “Higher! Higher!”, there is a little girl on a swing asking her father to push her higher and higher. With each new page, we see just how high she goes (or how high her imagination takes her). With vivid colors and very expressive pictures, “Higher! Higher” is a book that any child would enjoy.

Leslie Patricelli is the author and the illustrator of her books. Her titles include:
Binky, Blankie
BIG Little
Quiet LOUD
Yummy YUCKY
The Birthday Box
Baby Happy Baby Sad

I See Me Personalized Book Giveaway

Filed under Book Contests, Product Giveaways

iseeme

I remember one of the first books that had the biggest impact on me was a personalized book about me at a circus. I was enthralled that I was special enough to have my own book.  I couldn’t believe my brother’s name was even it the book.

I am so excited to have the chance to not only get a personalized book for my son, but participate in the creation. I See Me is a wonderful company and website where you can order personalized gifts for children. Their newest book is The World According To (YOUR CHILD)

This beautifully printed book features your child’s own drawings and classic comments. The kit includes interview questions that the parent asks the child, such as what he/she wants to be when he/she grows up, the child’s favorite things, and more.  The kit also includes color markers and drawing sheets for the child to do 6 drawings, including a self-portrait and a drawing of the family.  The parent sends the interview answers and drawings to I See Me! in the enclosed postpaid envelope. Three weeks later, a colorful, professionally typeset book arrives, ready for all-about-me story time!  The new kit/book makes it very easy for parents to document this precious stage in their child’s life. It’s for children ages 3-10.

You can take a virtual tour of the book to see if you want to buy it first. We have been busy answering the questions and making the drawings for his book. The instructions are so easy to follow, and making the book together is a special time to share with your child. I can’t wait until we get it back so I can see the look on his face. This book will be a treasure for years to come. The sample book they sent looks professional, much more realistic then when I was little. I am very impressed. You can order the kit for $39.95 and other personalized items at www.iseeme.com.

rose

The #1 UK bestseller comes to America— a sweeping historical novel about love, war, betrayal, and discovery.

In 1854, beautiful, adventurous Rosa Barr travels to the Crimean battlefield with Florence Nightingale’s nursing corps. A headstrong idealist, longing to break out of the rigid confines of life as a young lady, Rosa is determined to make a difference in the world.

For Mariella Lingwood, Rosa’s cousin, the war is contained within the pages of her scrapbook, in her London sewing circle, and in the letters she receives from her fiancé, Henry—a celebrated surgeon who has also volunteered to work within the shadow of the guns. When Henry falls ill and is sent to recuperate in Italy, Mariella impulsively decides she must go to him. But upon her arrival at his lodgings, she makes a heartbreaking discovery: Rosa has disappeared without a trace. Following the trail of her elusive cousin, Mariella’s epic journey takes her from the domestic restraint of Victorian London to the ravaged landscape of the Crimea and the tragic city of Sebastopol, where she encounters Rosa’s dashing stepbrother, a reckless cavalry officer whose complex past —and future—is inextricably bound up with her own. As Mariella’s quest leads her deeper into the dark heart of the conflict, her ordered world begins to crumble and she finds she has much to learn about secrecy, faithfulness, and love.

Katharine Mcmahon is the author of The Alchemist’s Daughter. She is a former English teacher, writing instructor, and actress.

household

Product Description
A brilliantly moving and darkly comic novel, which charts the attempts of dying heroine Delia — a modern day Mrs Beeton — to prepare her family for the future and lay to rest a ghost from her past. Inspired by her heroine, Isabella Beeton, Delia has made a living writing a series of hugely successful modern household guides, as well as an acerbic domestic advice column. As the book opens, she is not yet forty, but has only a short time to live. She is preoccupied with how to prepare herself and her family for death, from writing exhaustive lists to teaching her young daughters how to make a perfect cup of tea. What she needs, more than anything, is a manual — exactly the kind she is the expert at writing. Realising this could be her greatest achievement (for who could be better equipped to write The Household Guide to Dying?) she sets to work. But, in the writing, Delia is forced to confront the ghosts of her past, and the events of fourteen years previously. There is a journey she needs to make, back to the landscape of her past, and one last vital thing she needs to do.Hugely original, life affirming and humorous, The Household Guide to Dying illuminates love, loss, family and the place we call home.

Product Description(PUBLISHER)

MY LITTLE RED BOOK is an anthology of stories about first periods, collected from women of all ages from around the world. The accounts range from light-hearted (the editor got hers while water skiing in a yellow bathing suit) to heart-stopping (a first period discovered just as one girl was about to be strip-searched by the Nazis). The contributors include well-known women writers (Meg Cabot, Erica Jong, Gloria Steinem, Cecily von Ziegesar), alongside today’s teens. And while the authors differ in race, faith, or cultural background, their stories share a common bond: they are all accessible, deeply honest, and highly informative. Whatever a girl experiences or expects, she’ll find stories that speak to her thoughts and feelings.

My REVIEW

I don’t have a daughter, but if I did I would definitely share this book with her at the appropriate age. My Little Red Book is not just for young girls. It is a trip down memory lane and a feeling of connection to each story, whether the story is from 1941 or 2008.  Each chapter is short and narrated by a different woman. You can read a list of some of the contributors above and by clicking here. You should look just to read the titles of the chapters, they are hilarious. Every woman will find a story that they completely relate to. I don’t know how many of you have read “Are you there God it’s me Margaret” by Judy Blume, but it was a defining book for me, as books often are. Kate Zeimans funny and touching story about how Judy Blume’s book affected her.  Their is a also a terrific website www.mylittleredbook.net. Women and girls can share their stories, look for additional resources and watch the Period Dance. (I posted it below) You will laugh, cry and enjoy this trip down memory lane.

The Terror by Dan Simmons Book Giveaway

February 18, 2009 by Tracy

Synopsis from Publisher (Hachette)

“Dan Simmons writes with the salty grace and precision of Patrick O’Brian. But in piling supernatural nightmare upon historical nightmare, layering mystery upon mystery, he has produced a turbocharged vision of popular doom.” -Men’s Journal

Greeted with excited critical praise, this extraordinary novel-inspired by the true story of two ice ships that disappeared in the Arctic Circle during an 1845 expedition-swells with the heart-stopping suspense and heroic adventure that have won Dan Simmons praise as “a writer who not only makes big promises but keeps them” (Seattle Post-Intelligencer). THE TERROR chills readers to the core.

“Brutal, relentless, yet oddly uplifting, THE TERROR is a masterfully chilling work.” -Entertainment Weekly

“In the hands of a lesser writer than Dan Simmons, THE TERROR might well have dissolved into a series of frigid days and three-dog nights. But Simmons is too good a writer to ignore the real gold in his story-its beleaguered cast.” -Bookpage

“Guaranteed to have readers pulling their covers up to their noses, THE TERROR will make for a blood-freezing, bedtime read this winter-and any season thereafter.” -Pages

I LOVED this book! I read it last year and it was so gripping and crazy that the 992 pages flew by. I even wanted it to be longer, if you can believe that. I am very excited to read Dan Simmons new book Drood, which is fictional account of Charles Dickens. You can read more about it here.

I am so excited that the generous Hachette Book Group wants to give away FIVE copies of The Terror! If you don’t win, I highly recommend it and it is out in paperback at a great price on Amazon.
