At work, inside burning buildings, Capt. Caleb Holt (Kirk Cameron) lives by the old firefighters adage: Never leave your partner behind. At home, in the cooling embers of his marriage, he lives by his own rules. Growing up, Catherine Holt (Erin Bethea) always dreamed of marrying a loving, brave firefighter…just like her daddy. Now, after seven years of marriage, Catherine wonders when she stopped being “good enough” for her husband. Regular arguments over jobs, finances, housework, and outside interests have readied them both to move on to something with more sparks.
As the couple prepares to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb’s father challenges his son to commit to a 40-day experiment: “The Love Dare.” Wondering if it’s even worth the effort, Caleb agrees-for his father’s sake more than for his marriage. When Caleb discovers the book’s daily challengesare tied into his parents’ new found faith, his already limited interest is further dampened. While trying to stay true to his promise, Caleb becomes frustrated time and again. He finally asks his father, “How am I supposed to show love to somebody who constantly rejects me?” When his father explains that this is the love Christ shows to us, Caleb makes a life-changing commitment to love God. And with God’s help he begins to understand what it means to truly love his wife. But is it too late to fireproof his marriage? His job is to rescue others. Now Caleb Holt is ready to face his toughest job ever…rescuing his wife’s heart. Read about Fireproof from our movie reviews partner and view the trailer here.

We were pleased that Stephen Evans took the time to answer a few questions for us about his book

[USERNAME]
Stephen Evans is a playwright and author who came to Maryland for the waters. He was not misinformed.

1. What book are you currently reading?

I usually read three or four at a time. Right now they are:

Every Past Thing by Pamela Thompson
Dylan Thomas: A New Life by Andrew Lycett
Shelley: Poetry and Prose – Norton Critical Edition
A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold

2. I am fascinated by book covers, could you tell us about yours and the meaning of it.

I am a great admirer of classic comic duos. When I see the cover, I always think of the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon interludes where Bullwinkle says: “Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!” and then he always pulls out something you don’t expect, something funny. I hope that’s a bit of what readers will find in this book.

3. If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?

This is my note to readers from the Unbridled Books Website:

I don’t think anyone knows exactly how many animals are euthanized in shelters each year. I have seen estimates of anywhere from four to twenty million annually, or almost one per second.

This horrific problem requires not one but many solutions, I’m sure. Those solutions start with awareness, will, creativity, and money.

As I hope you can tell from the book, I have deep admiration for anyone who chooses a life of helping animals, whether they work in shelters or otherwise. There are hundreds of animal welfare and rescue organizations across the country that deserve our support. You can find many of them through online sites like Just Give. A portion of the income from the sale of this book will be donated to The Best Friends Animal Society and other animal rescue and welfare organizations.

Until we find solutions, our animal friends will sometimes need a good lawyer. I feel sure that Nick would fit right in at the Defenders of Wildlife and EarthJustice. For more information on the problem of animal euthanasia, I suggest contacting the American Humane Association or the National Council on Pet Population and Study.

The soul you save may be your own.

Especially if you believe in reincarnation.

 4. Our website is called Bookroom Reviews. Could you tell us about your bookroom or area (describe it, what are your favorite things in it, favorite books in it)

Most of my books are in storage at the moment, but I have little stacks all over the house. Over my desk, I have a picture of the farm in Iowa where my father grew up.

Thank you so much!  You can visit Steven’s authors page here
