My husband was so excited about this giveaway that I let him take over for the day.  This is his review of the Sodastream and he did a fantastic job.  MomStart is giving away a Sodastream too!  christmasinjulyOut of all the products included in the Christmas in July event, the SodaStream Home Drink Maker is one of the coolest.  At first, it was just the novelty of making soda at home that got us excited to have the chance to review this cool system.  However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that after easy setup, the machine actually produces homemade soda that tastes just like store bought.

The machine itself arrived much smaller than expected but the package was huge.  It included the basic drink maker, a CO2 container for carbonation, 2 bottles, and 10 flavor bottles to create drinks.

Set up of the machine was amazingly simple.  You first remove the drink bottles and install the (somewhat heavy) CO2 container, which is quick and easy.  Once the carbonator, which you can refill like propane tanks for a grill, is in place, you can begin the drink making process.

Despite the feeling of brilliance I had from mixing my first soda drink, the process of making drinks is impressively simple.  You fill the bottles with cold water, insert the nozzle into the machine using the tilt feature, twist it tight, and then use 3-4 quick presses of the carbonator button to carbonate the water.  The flavor is added after carbonation.  Flavor samples we received included diet and regular colas, root beer, diet cranberry raspberry, diet lemon lime, energy and a few others.  There are many more great flavors (over 30 total) available at the SodaStream website.  You can buy replacement flavor bottles a fairly low price.

There are many benefits to owning a SodaStream drink machine.  Of course, there is the cool factor of making your own pop.  However, there is also great value.  Some people who swear by brand name soda may insist the quality does not measure up.  But for more flexible pop drinkers, there really is not much to distinguish the homemade sodas from other off brand sodas and flavored carbonated beverages.  Each flavor bottle is reasonably priced so after the modest investment in the machine, you can make your own pop for much less than it costs to buy brand name drinks.

Additionally, you can help the environment by reducing use of cans and bottles – not too mention the time savings in recycling and paying the bottle deposit fees required in many states.  We made a video to show you how the SodaStream works.
