Escape From Killarney is an interesting twist on a family adventure or camping trip gone wrong. The story is told through the eyes of the family pet. Toby is the family dog and this is his view of the families nice "quiet weekend " at Killarney park.
A nice story seems to be geared towards 10-13 year olds. At only 64 pages it make a nice size chapter book for young reader that would like a good adventure to sink their teeth into. This is a true action adventure that moves right along with almost non-stop action.
It’s kind of cool how the author tries to get inside the family dogs head.Sometime showing the dogs frustration as he tries to communicate with the kids to get his point across. You can see how the Toby cares about his family as he feels he is the self proclaimed guide and protector of his “brother and sister”.
There is also a fine example of the family dynamic here. How the two kids get along and take care of one another in a time when they really do need one another.I will not give you any spoilers here but needless to say this little vacation does not quite go the way this family had hoped. A little more excitement than the nice peaceful camping trip in the woods they had planned on.
I can easily recommend Escape from Killarney for that kid that wants a good quick read…
