This is the story of Whoa, 
an Asian child, and his father who like to do various activities together. One night they sit in a favorite chair and watch the television news. At night while they are watching Whoa learns about characters by the names of Tragedy, Injustice, and Cruelty and some of the events that they were a part of. Whoa has to figure out a way to deal with these characters, so he learns about martial arts. Chris Corbett and Richardo Galvao have depicted the relationship between a father and a son and showed that they can discuss these ideas even over a favorite drink. The bold, large print words that are used at various points in the story do emphasize what is occurring. Richardo’s pictures are perfect for children for they seem almost childlike and are perfect for this story. ‘A Story of Whoa’ is a good story to discuss how current events affect us one way or another. WHOA loves his dad but can’t handle the emotions he feels when they listen to the nightly news together. One day, his father explains what Whoa is seeing on the news. That gets Whoa thinking. He doesn’t want the injustice, tragedy, and cruelty in this world. He comes up with a plan of how to beat them all. With his father at his side, Whoa handles his emotions, beats these three scourges in the world – and makes his father proud
