Winter Is Coming (I think it’s Here) Giveaway Hop

As part of the Winter is Coming Giveaway Hop event we thought we would give away some pf our favorite books

To help you get through this cold snowy winter we have a few very good books here we want to giveaway. Just in case you missed our reviews of these books …

First a great Sci/Fi futuristic Novel by S.Alex Martin EMBASSY

Interesting book! Although it is a Sci-Fi novel you don’t need to be a fan of that genre to appreciate the story or the work the author put in to this book.At the core the concept is pretty cool.A futuristic worldGalaxy with many inhabited planets connected by a common coalition (think United Nations). I’m not sure how far into the future we’re talking but the story starts inembassy Standard year 4319 so take it from there.Needless to say it’s pretty far in the future.
So like I said you don’t have to be a Sci-Fi fan to enjoy this one.As it takes place in the future but it could easily be right now. It’s about the story and character’s not all kind’s of outlandish inventions and gadget’s, The planets are inhabited refreshingly by Humans not crazy “Star War’s” creatures.
The main Character is a young man named Arman. What I see as an interesting twist is that he is not very likable in the beginning.I see him as self absorbed and full of self pity.Yes he has a few personal problems and is trying to recover from a great tragedy in his family. But c’mon DUDE lightin’ up.
The author S.Alex Martin has built strong interesting characters. They seem real and believable. As you get further into the book you can see the characters growing and maturing.Even the uber self confident Glacia has a few life lessons ahead as she and Arman get through their own personal struggle’s.We get to see a young man grow and come to realize that maybe true contentment comes from inside while dealing with the realities of life and not hopeless dreams of what might be.You must open yourself to your surroundings and the people that try to get close to you and not shut everyone out.
My grand daughter is obsessed with Disney’s “Frozen” (like every other little girl)and the main character inEMBASSY Arman reminds me of Elsa. She doesn’t find peace and contentment either until she opens up and lets others in.
One of the author’s personal interest is astronomy and it shows in his writing as they travel through the outer reaches of the galaxy. His writing makes keeps you aware of the different characters lives and stories while at the same time makes you think what the future realistically could be like.Space travel, dying planets, what will become of the Human Race.

Next we have Sovereignty by Anjenique Hughes

In Simplest terms Sovereignty is the supreme or unlimited power over a country

Sovereignty If you’re not familiar with the word “Sovereignty” I suggest you pick up a dictionary. Do that and you’ll get a fairly good idea what this book is about.Sovereignty by Anjenique Hughes is a well written Orwellian novel. Like most Dystopian novels it takes place in a future world none of us would want to be part of. Neither do our young heroes in this story.Teens will easily get into this book. Lots of action with most of it by teenagers fighting the good fight. The characters are all interesting with nice backstories especially Goro which leads to an interesting twist when he finds out who the leader of the resistance movement is.

I’ve really started to like reading a good Dystopian Novel although some are not all that great and frankly a little far fetched. Sovereignty however is not one of those. It’s the classic good vs evil. I especially like that for the most part it’s the younger kids that through a series of circumstances find themselves recruited by an underground force determined to make things right. Another interesting bit is although the story takes place in the 23rd century there are many references to things we are familiar with from our time. It doesn’t take place in some far away world but here on Earth in what used to be Los Angeles.

Number 3 on the list is

WASHINGTON POWER PLAY A political thriller By Allan Topol

Talk about timely it’s eerie how this book mirrors what is going on in Washington right now. If I didn’t know better I’d say Author Allan Topal was some sort of psychic (or maybe an undercover CIA operative) Who’d a thunk it? Imagine a foreign government trying to manipulate the United States presidential election!

power playI’d say this is a cross between a John Grisham novel and something by Tom Clancy. It deals in both the Legal world and the world of international intrigue and espionage. Not to mention the political corruption we see so often in the real world . If you like strong female characters this one just might be for you .  FBI agent Kelly Cameron starts the book off with a bang as she stops terrorist attack on the Walter Reed hospital . This in turn gets her noticed as she then gets assigned to head up an investigation on finding a traitorous mole that is leaking classified information. The reader might be surprised by the result although I did figure it out. It’s nonstop action as you figure out the answers. I like a Thriller that gets to the action right away. You don’t have to wait long here. Then the intrigue and suspense starts.

This book is loaded with Espionage, deceit, backstabbing, with a little kidnapping involved. Well written, compelling and believable characters both good guys an bad guys are fun to read. Amazing how true to life this seems especially with the Trump /Russia thing going on.Normally I’d read something like this and while enjoying the book would not really think it would really happen. It’s all quite scary.

And Last and least I guess just for fun for any Downton Abbey Fans is

downtown abbey THE WORLD of DOWNTON ABBEY

Downton Abbey has captured the imagination of the nation. Written by Oscar-winning writer Julian Fellowes the show has become the benchmark for quality drama, and a commentary on all things British. Downton Abbey portrays a world of elegance and decadence, a world of duty and obedience and a world of romance and rivalry: this companion book, full of rich historical detail, takes fans deeper into that period than ever before
