“What’s to worry about?”  Reena Patel has written a children’s picture book entitled ‘Winnie and Her Worries  An Anxiety Toolbox for Children and their Caretakers.  This is the picture story of a little girl named Winnie and how she deals with what is bothering her throughout her day.  Winnie shares activities that she enjoys as well as what worries her.  She learns how to use her coping skills to help deal with the various kinds of feelings she feels.  Winnie learns what best works for her.
Winnie & her worriesThe artwork from the cover throughout Winnie & Her Worries is basic and colorful that brings out the emotions of Winnie and all involved including the reader.  We can all relate to what Winnie is feeling for at one point we all have needed to learn ways of coping with our problems and issues good and bad.  This is a book that could be used by all from parents to professional therapists and teachers along with a few other professions that allow for some anxiety issues.  The last two pages of this picture book give the tools for all to use to stimulate awareness of what is going on with our mind and body.Winnie & Her Worries could be used with the geriatric population as well for there was an exercise called ‘Mindful Breathing’ that could be of help for learning how to relax.  Teachers and counselors could use this picture book and its’ techniques when dealing with some discipline issues or ADHD students, as in using (with permission) ‘Body Scan’ and ‘Three Senses’.  Just be Aware!
