Jeep Renegade Walker Review and Giveaway

Jeep Liberty Renegade Walker

Now that Noah is four months old, I was looking for a walker or activity center for him. I didn’t even know that Jeep made products for babies, but was so excited to get the Jeep Renegade Walker for him to try out. It is so cute, because it looks like a little jeep for your baby. It was very easy to assemble, and took my husband about fifteen minutes to put together.   It is lightweight, very stable and has good support.   The toys include a steering wheel, that makes engine noises, beeps and plays music.   It also has two side toys, one is a mirror and the other is a spin toy.   Noah was immediately attracted to them and they held his attention.   The colors are bright and visually stimulating.   The Jeep will be useful for us as a tool to help him learn to sit up and play, as well as strengthen his legs.   One more thing I noticed, it is easy to wipe down and clean.   I do have safety concerns about using walkers, and was happy to learn that Jeep Renegade Walker meets the JPMA safety standards.  The most important part is up to parents to supervise their children in walkers at all times.

New walkers that meet the voluntary Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) standards, including being too wide to fit through a standard doorway, or having features, such as a gripping mechanism, to stop the walker at the edge of a step, are safer than older ones, but they are still a possible source of injuries for children. Parents should also be aware that stationary activity centers are a good alternative to mobile walkers. If using a mobile walker, parents should follow the Consumer Product Safety Recommendations and:

  • close the door or gate at the top of the stairs
  • keep children within view
  • keep children away from hot surfaces and containers
  • beware of dangling appliance cords
  • keep children away from toilets, swimming pools and other sources of water

Since 75 percent of injuries are related to falls down stairs, in addition to the above recommendations, don’t use a baby walker near stairs, even if you have a gate on the stairs.  The Jeep Renegade Walker has also received terrific reviews on Amazon where you can purchase it. It is also available at Kolcraft.com, Toys R Us, Walmart, and many other retail stores.

Eighteen Reasons to Love Taylor Lautner

February 20, 2010 by Tracy

I found this fun picture gallery on People.com about 18 reasons to love Taylor Lautner from Twilight and New Moon.  I thought I would share a few of the reasons here on Bookroom Reviews with you, because I know there are alot of Twilight fans that read my blog!   For the rest of the reasons and pictures, here is the link for your enjoyment!  Which reason do you pick?

REASON 3:  HE FLEXES HIS MUSCLES  At 16, Lautner was told he was too young and too thin to fill the role of a much-larger Jacob in the Twilight sequel. But he stayed focused, packed on more than 30 lbs. of muscle and kept his starring shot in New Moon. “Now I’m a big bad wolf!” he said.

REASON 12:  HE LOOKS GOOD IN A WIG  On a lesser hunk, Jacob’s wig could look downright goofy. “[The wig] would get caught in my mouth, and I would be spitting it out in this scene where I’m coming close to kissing Bella,” Lautner admitted. “It was annoying.”

REASON 13  HE LOOKS COOL ON A MOTORCYCLE   When Kristen Stewart’s  Bella crashes her bike in New Moon, it’s Lautner who revs his engine to come to her rescue. “Yes, I rode the dirt bike for a total of about five seconds in the film,” he said, “but, for those five seconds, I had to look as cool as possible.”

REASON 4: HE’S A LEADING MAN    In New Moon, Robert Pattinson ’s Edward leaves Kristen Stewart ’s Bella heartbroken – creating a romantic opening for Lautner’s Jacob. “It definitely says something about him – he puts people at ease,” Stewart says of her costar. No wonder their chemistry smolders onscreen.

REASON 1:  HE LOOKS GOOD WET  And the winner of this wet T-shirt contest is … Taylor Lautner ! The New Moon star – who celebrated his 18th birthday on Feb. 11 – makes a splash as Malibu’s finest during a magazine photo shoot in October

Build a Bear Alvin and Wii Giveaway

December 6, 2009 by Tracy

Build-a-bear-logo

A fun Christmas tradition to entertain your children is going to Build a Bear Workshops. Children will love “building” their own friend and parents will love the reasonable cost. Here is how it works:

To make their stuffed teddy bear or flamingo, or monkey – there are dozens of choices– “guests” (i.e. kids of any age including anyone feeling young-at-heart) do a circuit of eight bear-making stations.

  • Choose Me: guests choose the furry friend they’re going to make.

  • Hear Me: guests choose a pre-recorded sound that will be inserted in the stuffed animal; or they can make their own message (for about $8).

  • Stuff Me and Heart Stuff: “master Bear Builders associates” (aka store staff) fill the teddy with stuffing. “Heart Stuff™” is a special step: each Guest chooses a satin heart, makes a wish, and puts it inside the stuffie.

  • Stitch Me: before the stuffed animal gets its final stitch, the “master Bear Builder associate” inserts a barcode, so that if the stuffed animal gets lost, it can be returned to Build-A-Bear Workshop and its owner can be identified.

  • Fluff Me: the guest brushes the animal at the bear spa

  • Name Me: the Name Me computer asks guests questions about their new stuffed animal, and this info goes on a personalized birth certificate (English or Spanish).

  • Dress Me: of course, there are fashions for all occasions. Pawsonal Shoppers assist.

  • Take Me Home: guests get the customized birth certificate, and a Buy Stuff Club® card. The stuffed animal travels in a Cub Condo® carrying case.

Prices for your child’s furry friend are reasonable — $10 to $25– as are prices for outfits. Most major cities have a Build-A-Bear Workshop ®  Every year they have new characters to build and cherish and this year I am excited about Alvin and the Chipmunks. Nolan is a big fan of them.

Hexbug Nano Review

hex_bug_nano_robotic_creatures_cutiegadgetIf you have a youngster whose stocking needs stuffed this holiday season with a fun but affordable toy, the HEXBUG Nano may be your best solution.  With a retail price of just $7.99, the Hexbug Nano from Innovation First International is an irresistible, ultra-engaging bug-like robotic toy that uses the physics of vibration and robotic intelligence to skitter along and explore its environment on smooth surfaces.

The HEXBUG Nano provides hours of fun for the entire family and is now available at ToysRUs & RadioShack stores nationwide.  As a nice add-on benefit, HEXBUG Nano fanatics interested in the lore of science and discovery can visit www.handandstars.com to test their knowledge of scientific history and key scientific discoveries, engage in online game play, and register their Nano collection to earn points and global prestige.  HEXBUGS are designed to engage and inspire kids at a young age by giving them a positive experience with robotics, ideally furthering their educational interest in science, technology, engineering, and math.

The HEXBUG Nano is without question the most interesting, entertaining, and sophisticated toy that costs less than $10 that I have ever seen.  One challenge we found is that the HEXBUG is so frisky that you should try to establish clear boundaries for them before you turn them loose.  They operate with a natural affinity for turning and flipping when faced with boundaries.  We ended up having to dig ours out from under the fridge and TV until we realized to keep them under wraps.

Described by my father in law as an electronic bug, the HEXBUG is sure to be a highlight for your child this Christmas!

Blockbuster Dysfunctional Movie Giveaway

November 30, 2009 by Tracy
Filed under DVD Giveaways, Product Giveaways

BlockbusterLogo

Last year, I posted my favorite “Dysfunctional Movies” list because watching them is one of my favorite things to do around the holidays. BLOCKBUSTER has a list of their own and this year and according to BLOCKBUSTER’s Dysfunctional Family Poll, “Nobody’s Fool,” featuring Paul Newman as Sully, a cranky, sarcastic patriarch whose son and grandson unexpectedly show up for Thanksgiving dinner tops the list as the most dysfunctional turkey day. A close second is “Planes, Trains & Automobiles,” which features Steve Martin struggling to get home for Thanksgiving while being unavoidably accompanied by the endlessly irritating shower curtain-ring salesman Del Griffith, played by John Candy. You can see the rest of the list here and see my list from last year here. These are great recommendations and they are fun to rent and watch with your family during the Holidays!

GIVEAWAY

Blockbuster is generously having a giveaway to one of my readers of a holiday prize pack that includes a $10 BLOCKBUSTER gift card and two movies from the Dysfunctional Family Movie list!  How Cool!

PlaSmart PlasmaCar Review

September 7, 2009 by Tracy
Filed under Children's toy reviews, Product Reviews

The PlasmaCar is a revolutionary new child toy from leading innovator PlaSmart, Inc.  Truly unique, there are many advantages to the PlasmaCar compared to other types of child cars and toys.  The car has no paddles and relies on gravity and an innovative wheel design that allows for easy turns and directional changes.

We used our PlasmaCar on the driveway, which is a flat surface with plenty of space.  The product is best used on a smooth, flat surface.  We found two basic ways to ride.  If your child is small enough (product recommended for 3 years and older), he or she can self propel and push easily for movement.  If you are up for the fun, you can give your child a push and watch him or her use the wheel to make turns.  This helps him or her to learn laws of nature related to centrifugal force and inertia.

The PlasmaCar is made from high quality materials and it is very durable, even if you have a child like ours that likes to stop by bumping into things.  It is also fairly easy to assemble with just a few pieces to connect together correctly.  There are no pedals or gears, and best of all, there is no ongoing expense that comes with some other battery-operated cars that you can buy.

Though our 5 year old is only 50 pounds, the PlasmaCar is reported to hold up to 220 pounds.  My husband tested this claim and sure enough, it is still in tact and even moves fairly well with him sitting on it.  Other safety rules for the car include no standing and not hills.  Again, the car is best used on a smooth flat surface in a safe area.

Kellogg Cinnabon Snack Bars

cinnabon

Have you ever had one of those fabulous gooey Cinnabon’s at the mall? Yummy! Kellogg s had a brilliant idea when they created their new Cinnabon Snack Bars! We were able to try a box of them thanks to Mom Central. Well, they were a HUGE hit and scarfed down by the next day. Kellogg s did a great job of re-creating the taste of cinnamon buns.  The kids rated them with an enthusiastic A.

These snack bars combine the decadence of Cinnabon with a convenient, wholesome bar, proving an unexpectedly indulgent treat. Finding time to treat yourself, no matter how brief, can give the energy and relief needed to make it through the longest of on-the-go summer days. Once you’ve experienced the delicious brown sugar and cinnamon filling and cream cheese frosting, there’s no going back to the usual ho-hum snack. And, at 150 calories, Kellogg Cinnabon Snack Bars offer up an indulgence you don’t have to feel guilty about. You can read the ingredients and nutrition information at their website.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Kellogs. Mom Central sent me a gift card and a box of cinnabon Snack bars to thank me for taking the time to participate.
