Shameless Season One on DVD and Blu Ray Now

ShamelessDVDShowtime continues to feature unique and quality television series. If you didn’t catch the show Shameless last year, you can now that season one is out on Blu Ray and DVD. Season two is starting in January, so you can catch up on all of the episodes. One theme of the show is the immaturity and irresponsibility of the father, Frank Gallagher, played to perfection by Bill Macy.

He leaves his eldest daughter Fiona to hold down the house, donning the proverbial apron and making sure her younger siblings do their chores, keep a clean(ish) house and stay fed. Fiona, in a difficult position being the eldest of the Gallagher children, takes the responsibility of child-rearing which often results in humorous outcomes.

One example: in Episode 4, the middle Gallagher child Debbie, after becoming depressed with her Aunt’s passing, decides to steal a toddler from a birthday party. Fiona and the rest of the siblings devise a plan to return the boy to his family while going unnoticed by the increased police presence in the area.

Have you ever felt a similar weight as Fiona feels, like the entire world is on your shoulders? One where the weight of a certain job falls to you, even though you are not the one designated to take on the task? I think everyone has felt this way at some point in time, some more frequently then others. I started working young because I loved children, so I enjoyed babysitting often from the age of fourteen on. I even developed a drop in babysitting service on Saturdays at our church, where I partnered with a couple of other girls my age to watch children and keep them busy with crafts and activities. I planned them too. Unfortunately, one of the girls wasn’t dependable and didn’t show up, I ended up alone with too many children. Thankfully, one of the parents noticed and stayed to help. It can be hard to be the dependable one, but it will always pay off in the future.
