Return to Duty

Dustin Williams

Return to Duty is a futuristic story that could also be the present time as well in so many ways. Dustin Williams has written an adult novel entitled ‘Return to Duty’ that is about a career military man named Ryker Vaughn who seems to have upset some alien beings who need some special element to survive. It all starts when Rhyker and his squad are on a mission and he finds an object that he thinks is IED, but is actually something else and he starts to wonder why it knows his name. Rhyker learns many things about family, friends and country in this story of heroism and patriotism. Dustin Williams wrote a novel that is fast-paced and even scientifically possible in most cases. Dustin wrote a story that would also make a great movie for it is action-packed from the start to the finish. It is also a story that will pull at your heartstrings for Rhyker and all his relationships both personal and professional. My favorite part of the story was when all the amputees were called into service and the title ‘Return to Duty’ took on new meaning for veterans of all wars past and present real and fictional.

When Captain Ryker Vaughn signed up for ordnance patrol, he knew that scavenging for improvised explosive devices carried risk.
After unexpected and inexplicable dangers, he becomes the sole survivor of his team—and a double amputee. Cinching tourniquets on his traumatically amputated legs, he fends off enemies before losing consciousness.

After waking up post-surgery, Ryker finds prosthetic metal posts protruding through the skin of his residual limbs. The posts connect to state-of-the-art bionics called Ozzies, which could change his life by restoring his ability to walk, stronger and faster than ever.

Yet despite receiving this life-altering technology, he vows to never walk again, believing that being mobile would dishonor his now deceased team.

But when an unparalleled force enters Earth’s atmosphere, threatens to extract the planet’s most valuable resource, and abducts his little brother, Ryker must make a decision: stay under the covers, or use his innovative bionics and return to duty.
