What can I say except every pre-teen needs to read this book.  Mustaches For Maddie is based on a true story about a loving, funny, and friendly 12 year old girl named Maddie. Maddie loves mustaches and she has fake ones for everything. Maddie loves making people laugh. Everyone does laugh at Maddie except for Cassie. Cassie doesn’t laugh at the mustaches because she is the most popular girl in class and when kids laugh at Maddie, Cassie gets jealous. Cassie is a bully.
Maddie is very insecure about her arm, it won’t lay straight. Maddie’s mother decides to take her to the Dr. and after several tests, it is determined Maddie has a brain tumor. Maddie’s friends all come to give her comfort, except for Cassie. Cassie thinks Maddie is faking.
After the scary surgery Maddie goes through, she is able to go back to school, but she stays away from Cassie. Maddie starts to see signs of Cassie’s life and it isn’t very good. This is why Cassie is a bully. She takes her home life out on the kids at school.
This book will have you laughing one minute and shedding tears the next. Maddie shows everyone that life can throw us bad balls, but we can overcome it all through compassion and laughter.
I would recommend this book as a great school book read to the class. I loved it and with cancer so rampid in children today, this book can give kids hope. With the bully problems in schools today this book also helps address this issue.
Mustaches For Maddie is a 10 out of 10 stars! Great read!
