Book 3 In the Liberty Frye Series

A Middle Grade series by J.L. McCreedy

Liberty Frye

I first met Liberty Frye five years ago when I read Liberty Frye and the Witches of Hessen. As Rick Blaine in Casablanca would say” It was the start of a beautiful friendship”.

The books in the Liberty Frye series are some of the most enjoyable and well written Young Adult/Middle Grade novels I have had the pleasure to read. The writing and character development is superb. Liberty Frye and Ginny ooze with personality. Then of course you have Uncle Frank and Sal bringing up the rear oh yeah I almost forgot Esmeralda. Author J.L. McCreedy certainly has a way with words. A very descriptive way of writing that I really like to see in a good book. In describing a dark night she writes, Libby peered into the sky ,which was thick as ink and pin-pricked with stars. I guess it’s just me but I appreciate good writing. This was a the kind of book that made you feel kind of bad that it was over. I didn’t want it to end yet.  What it does do is bring the whole series full circle. I don’t think the series is over but I think  it will be an all new adventure for Liberty Frye and BFF Ginny.I would however like to see more of Ginny working with Libby in the next one. I love her spunky personality.

So about the story its self. At the end of book two Liberty Frye and the gang were leaving the South Pacific for China. The only one that really seems to know why is Uncle Frank.

Well Book three does indeed start off sailing into Chinese Waters and the adventure begins there. To bring you up to speed the gang is still back in the 1870’s. Yes if you remember they traveled back in time. Crazy right? That fact alone makes this one cool book. I have always been fascinated with the concept of time travel. The author does make you think of the different possibilities and problems bending time can cause. On top of everything else Libby has to worry about that time travel thing!

Why China? Well that’s where Liberty Frye will find the Wizard of course. Why find the Wizard? Because he needs the Moonstone OBVIOUSLY!!!

So that is it. The Gist of the story. Liberty Frye in a few short years has learned her family secrets and history. She has learned she has magical powers, she has learned she is the one that can make her ailing Mother well. She has learned that she must carry these responsibilities on her shoulders. She must complete this quest. As I was reading the story I thought it was like a cross between the adventures of Indiana Jones and Frodo Baggins quest to destroy the One Ring. I liked how Liberty keeps discovering how strong her abilities are and how capable she is. As for the Moonstone well you must get into the Liberty Frye series to find out.But it will be worth it and you won’t be disappointed in the least.

Did I mention the awesome artwork on the cover of these books?
