Back to School With Educational iPad Apps plus a Giveaway

apple ipadWith thousand of iPad and iPhone apps it can be difficult to know what to buy for your children.  I am not a teacher or have a degree in education.   I put this list  together to show which apps  my family has been enjoying and using on the iPad, as well as some highly recommended apps for older children.   The iPad can be a great resource for parents and teachers for educational values.   Parents that take the time and opportunity to use the apps together with your child will have the most benefits.   This list covers ages infant to eight and a wide price range from free to $9.99.  My six year old and nine month old have been enjoying some of the apps listed below.  You can view our video about some of the apps listed below to learn more.   I also have a list of apps I recommend for children diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome.  If you are thinking about buying an iPad, I listed the pros and cons from my experience in this article.

School Zone Addition and Subtraction Learning Game ($4.99)-  The program makes learning addition and subtraction facts fast and easy. Word Warp – (.99)  Similar to Text Twist, Word Warp is a challenging anagram type of word game in which you try to form as many words as you can out of the six letters you are given before time runs out.  You will receive points for each correct word you come up with, but in order to advance to the next level you must come up with at least one word that uses all six letters. age 8 and up.

      We would buy the Toy Story app. My 6 year old kindergartener is learning to read and both he and my 2 year old are Toy Story fanatics!!!

      i already bought Dr. Seuss ABC for my iphone, but I would also consider buying the MeeGenius Create Your Own Story- ($1.99) because:
      1. I think it would be good for my son to learn the classic stories
      2. he would enjoy “creating” his own own story and be more interested in it
      3. price is right.

      My son, who is a first grader on the Autism Spectrum, is a huge Buzz Lightyear fan and a beginning reader. He is a very visual learner, and I think he will love reading the Toy Story books on the iPad. I am forever looking for new ways to engage him in reading.

    7. I’d get the Cat in the hat. it’s filled with lots of early reader words and I think it’d be a fantastic learning tool!
