Kori Kitzler is the "dark angel" of the eighth grade in Undone by Brooke Taylor.  Serena Moore is just your average eighth grader. When Kori tells Serena that they are more alike than she thinks, Serena is instantly flattered.  What could she and bad-girl Kori possibly have in common?

Fast forward to their sophomore year and they're now best friends.  They tell each other everything and Serena has turned into Kori's twin.  Serena has dyed her hair and changed her clothes to look and act just like Kori.  Kori is fearless, and takes risks.

But then a tragedy happens, and Serena is left alone.  She has always been reluctant and scared, but decides to fulfill Kori’s list of five things she wants to accomplish before she dies.  As Serena begins to complete those five things, she learns for the first time how alike they really are, but she also begins to uncover some secrets Kori had been hiding.

In Undone, author Brooke Taylor, channels a teenager’s voice so realistically, I was instantly hurtled back to those tender years.   There were many times I was reading and chuckling about Serena’s complicated relationship with her mother.  There are lots of themes covered in this engaging book with the biggest being self discovery with a mystery that weaves throughout and keeps you turning the pages as fast as you can.

The storyline about the girls having such a strong friendship was touching and realistically portrayed.  I thought the plot and the writing were clever and witty.  I have been lucky enough to have read some fantastic YA books lately and this one is no exception  As I read this book I kept thinking what a fantastic writer Brooke Taylor is. I would highly recommend this book to readers 14 and up.  I think some of the themes are too dark for anyone younger.  I look forward to reading much more from this new author. She is one to watch.
