What does the author of The Joy of Sex have in common with the
world’s strongest woman? They have each been profiled by the prolific author
Pagan Kennedy. Pagan has compiled an impressive list of diverse lives in this
non-fiction book, The Dangerous Joy of Dr. Sex. Kennedy followed each person and
chronicled each life in a short chapter. They are enlightening stories about
people who aren’t well known. In Kennedy’s eclectic style, we get to know the
author of The Joy of Sex, who led a
sad and shy life behind all the fame of his book – A political activist that
travels around the country going to protest rallies to relieve the tension in
unique and funny ways.
Probably my favorite story was
about Amy Smith, whose main goal is to help people in poor countries by using
simple technology she developed. Finally, Kennedy takes us into her own life with
a series of essays. Overall, I found this short book an interesting read about
subjects and people that I never would have read about otherwise. I did find
that she is a very talented writer and looking through her bio, I will
definitely pick up her other books for that reason.
