Tan Lines starts with that Infamous line, which I am not going to repeat, and doesn’t let go.  This is the story of three powerful women.  Billie Shelton is a famous indie rock star who loves sex, drugs and drinking.  The problem is her star is falling and her manager wants her to transform into a pop star.  Billie struggles with her demons and drugs.

Liza Pike seems to have it all.  She is a wealthy author and feminist, who is a regular guest on a television show called The Roundtable.  She has a handsome husband who is a firefighter.  The problem is she starts receiving death threats because of her controversial opinions.  Kellyane Downey is an struggling actress.  She is blonde and beautiful and also the mistress of a wealthy and powerful man named Walter.  He is sixty-four and married and pays all of Kellyanne’s expenses.  Kellyanne gets an offer to star on a Bachelor-like reality show and desperate to succeed she goes on the show, but there is trouble ahead when the producer gets mad at her.

The three women have been friends for years and decide to go in together on a time share in the Hamptons.  By the time summer ends their lives will have changed in profound ways.  Tan Lines is a great summer read and reminds me of Jackie Collins’ books.  It was fun to picture the characters as being modeled on Hollywood stars.  The women are strong and smart characters and I was surprised to see that Tan Lines written by a man.  Kudos to him.  This book is not for the faint of heart because of the graphic sex, profanity and drug use.  But if you love fun sexy beach reads, then this book should be first on your list.
