First of all, the title of this book alone is hilarious.  Queen of the Road chronicles Doreen Orion’s 12-month, 47 state odyssey with her husband Tim,  as they along with their 60 pound dog, and two cats pack in with all of the modern conveniences that one can get into a 340 square foot converted bus.  During their odyssey, they experience an armed robbery in Tucson, an Elvis wedding in Vegas, and a visit to a nudist resort in San Bernardino.  As she is the self described Pampered Princess of Long Island, Orion’s husband has to talk her into taking the trip, but she soon supports the idea and now we have this wonderful book to show for it.  One example of her witty writing is this line:

“That first date lasted eight hours. We’ve been together ever since, progressing through the all-important M’s- Monogamy, Moving in, Mortgage, and Matrimony. And then, unfortunately, Motor Home.”

In addition to its humor, there is much to like about Queen of the Road.  A big one is the overall sentiment of the book - To do things like this while you are young enough to enjoy them.  The book also shows why travel and altering one's routine are so important and how life changing they can be.  They both learned important lessons and grew closer as a couple.  After reading her book, she has even convinced me to one day do the same but maybe on a smaller scale.  You will want to buy your own bus too after reading this fun book.
