Ellen's relationship to Andy
doesn't just seem perfect on the surface. It really is perfect. She loves his family,
and everything about him, including that he brings out the best in her. That is, until Ellen unexpectedly runs into
Leo. Leo was the one who got away. He was the one who brought out the worst in
her. The one she can't forget. This is the story about why we chose to love
the ones we love, and why we just can't forget the ones who aren't right for
us.
Love the One You‘re With started out great. The premise is something that a lot of married
women can relate to, but then about halfway through it falls flat. I just lost patience with Ellen, the main
character, and all I wanted to do was yell “Grow up“ at
her. But maybe that was what Emily Griffin was aiming for. It helps to like a book if you like the main
character and I just didn’t. But I think
a lot of people will and do. It is
obviously a best seller. There are a lot
of great discussion ideas for books clubs. Life is about choices and sometimes they are
difficult. Emily Griffin’s writing style
is engaging, but the plot in this novel just didn’t go anywhere. This is the first Emily Griffin novel I have
read and even though I would only grade it a C, I will still try her others. Maybe someone can recommend a better one!
