What a great idea for a book! Admit One: A Journey into Film is a story about a boy, author Emmett James, and his life as presented through a history of films. Each chapter in his memoir is titled with the name of a movie, and the subject matter in each is based on his life experience during the time that movie came out, and the influence the movie had on him. For instance, one of the chapters is titled Grease.

Grease was my favorite chapter because I LOVE the movie and it reminds me of good times. In this chapter, James tells about the influence the movie had on his mother, that she became transformed with excitement, singing and dancing in the aisles. He also discusses how at the age of six, he became enamored with Olivia Newton John.

The Grease story is a prime example of why I liked this book. We can all relate to the power of film. I danced and performed with my friends to Grease and so have many generations of teenagers and young adults since. It is no wonder James became an actor. He had a bit part in Titanic and he writes about it in his book. I have linked his web page above. He writes with a funny wit and Admit One is a charming read.
