National Security Mom: Why “Going Soft” Will Make America Strong (Hardcover)
by Gina M. Bennett (Author)
Amazon Description
“National Security Mom” offers the basics of current terrorism trends and national security policymaking from a parent’s perspective. Written by a mother of five and 20-year veteran of counterterrorism in the US Intelligence Community, this book de-mystifies the underworld of terrorism and offers a unique comparison of how the super-secret intelligence approach to securing our nation is surprisingly similar to how parents secure their homes and families
By comparing the expertise parents gain while running their households to the skills required to govern, “National Security Mom” empowers America’s parents to engage with confidence in the public national security debate. The simple premise, that everything we need to know about securing our nation we have learned from our family life, offers hope that no matter what security challenges America faces, our nation will be proud and secure.
We need only follow the guidance we give our children, such as “clean up your own mess,” “tell the truth,” and “don’t give in to a bully,” to ensure our nation’s welfare.
Moms know that the most important lessons they teach their children will last a lifetime. Who better to entrust the security of our nation than mothers?
About the Author
A Senior Counterterrorism Analyst, Gina Bennett has authored some of the earliest warnings of today’s terrorism trends, including the 1993 report that warned of the growing danger of Osama Bin Laden and the extremist movement he was fomenting. Her analysis has been called “prescient,” “genius” and “prophetic” by major media and former government officials who recognize the insightfulness of her work nearly a decade later. While serving as the Senior Deputy National Intelligence Officer for Transnational Threats, she was the principal author of the hotly debated 2006 National Intelligence Estimate “Trends in Global Terrorism: Implications for the U.S.”
REVIEW
Gina Bennett is a mother of five with a difficult job. She compels mothers to examine our beliefs in ourselves, our government and our abilities, and to start with our children’s school systems on up to the Government. I enjoyed her parenting stories and don’t be scared off by the subject of terrorism. National Security Mom is an easy and enlightening read. You can buy National Security Mom on Amazon.

This looks like an interesting book that takes a different look at the issue of terrorism without a lot of the political agenda/baggage that many authors bring to the table when they write about this subject. I’m definitely interested in reading it.
What an interesting book. Its interesting what perspectives authors can bring to certain subjects, even the tough ones like terrorism.
I’m a mom and am concerned about our country – sounds like I could relate to this book!
I’ve seen this book on a few different blogs and am intrigued and would like to read it.
I’d like to read her views on National Security and the Middle East.
I like the idea that it is looking at National Security from a mom’s perspective, expecially a mom who is an expert in the field.

The book “National Security Mom” sounds like a great read. I am a mother and a high school teacher and feel that our children are our future. To see it from both a mom’s and an insider’s viewpoint on National Security would be of great interest to me.
I’m ignorant about the subject.
I totally want to read this book. I worry when my kids go to school or even when they leave the house. It is getting ridiculous these days!
I think this would be a very interesting subject and I’d like to read about how the comparisons relate.
I would love to hear what a Mother has to say about National Security.
