When I received an e-mail asking me to review a Warm Mouse, my first thought was

THIS

THIS?

Thank Goodness this is the Warm Mouse

warmme-warmmouse1

The Warm Mouse is the only HEATED computer mouse.  My hands and feet are cold all the time, even in the summer, so the Warm Mouse sounded perfect for me.  The first thing I liked is that it is easy to set up. I plugged the Mouse into my USB port and it only took about 3 minutes to warm up. There isn’t complicated software to install, which is a huge plus.  The Warm Mouse reaches its maximum temperature of 104 degrees in 20 minutes. I definitely loved the warm feeling of the Mouse. It felt very soothing and nice. I also like that it has a scroll wheel and I liked the size and shape, it felt very comfortable.   The Warm Mouse passed the test from all of the other computer users in the family. According to the Warm Mouse website, it can help people who suffer from Arthritis and Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. It works with any PC, Mac, or laptop. I think the price is really good for all that it does. You can buy it for $29.95 at www.warmmouse.com. I would love to see a wireless version in the future.  More information from the website is below.

WarmMe® WARM MOUSE is ergonomically designed to fit in your hand comfortably, minimizing unnecessary pressure on the wrist and forearm muscles. This insures that your wrist is in a neutral position during use. You can move freely while delivering therapeutic heat to relax tight hand and wrist muscles.

WarmMe® WARM MOUSE improves circulation in your hand, fingers, thumb and fingertips. As natural infrared rays are gently emitted, reflected and refracted in the soft tissues of your fingers and hands, cellular functioning is enhanced. This amazing process can help to reverse damage done from overworked joints. Infrared rays can actually help to produce better enzymes within the cells of the muscle.

And besides warming your hand if you work in a cold environment, this mouse helps so much more. If you suffer from:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,

  • Arthritis

  • Raynaud’s

  • DeQuervain’s

  • poor circulation

  • Tendonitis

  • RSI or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

The Warm Mouse Product Description:

  • Ergonomic USB Optical Scrolling Mouse

  • Accurate 800dpi

  • 2-Button, 3-function

  • Heated (infrared) Warms to perfect 104°F

Audio Bone Headphones Review

January 29, 2009 by Tracy

headphones_2The Audio Bone headphones are a fabulous idea, especially for mothers. I love to listen to music, but I don’t when the little one is running around because I’m afraid I won’t be able to hear him. The Audio Bone headphones don’t cover your ears so they are free to hear other noises. You hear everything through the bones in front of your ears. The makers of Audio Bones also say that bone conduction is less likely to contribute to hearing loss over the years, and that this technology permits some people with eardrum damage to enjoy music once again. (Bone conduction is already available in certain hearing aids.)

What exactly is bone conduction? “We all hear sounds through both our bones and our ear drums. Most sounds are heard by our ear drums. The ear drum converts the sound waves to vibrations and transmits them to the cochlea (or inner ear). But in some cases vibrations are heard directly by the inner ear bypassing your ear drums. In fact, this is one of the ways you hear your own voice. This is also how whales hear.

Invented by Beethoven – Ludwig van Beethoven, the famous 18th century composer who was partially deaf, discovered Bone Conduction. Beethoven found a way to hear music through his jawbone by attaching a rod to his piano and clenching it in his teeth.” (www.audioboneheadphones.com)

I think that the Audio Bone headphones are a fabulous idea. They are comfortable to wear and are convenient to use in environments where you need to hear surrounding noises. They also solve that pesky problem of putting those earbuds inside your ears ( they always fall out of mine). But I think the audio quality needs to improve. I tried them on my computer and could barely hear the video. It was much better with the iPod though, and my husband really likes it. Bottom line is they work great with your iPod and are ideal for the office, runners, bikers, and swimmers (they are waterproof) and for moms with little ones. If you are looking to ‘rock out’ stick with your earbuds.    Another thing I wanted to point out is according to the Audio Bone website, you shouldn’t judge these headphones right away, as you need to give your inner ear some time to adjust to bone conduction listening. I think they will be ideal when the price comes down a bit. Hopefully that will happen, because I think they will save a lot of hearing loss problems. For more information and to purchase Audio Bone Headphones starting at $189 at www.audioboneheadphones.com.

Beat the Reaper Book Review and Giveaway

WHAT THIS BOOK IS ABOUT

Dr. Peter Brown is an intern at Manhattan’s worst hospital, with a talent for medicine, a shift from hell, and a past he’d prefer to keep hidden. Whether it’s a blocked circumflex artery or a plan to land a massive malpractice suit, he knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men.

Pietro “Bearclaw” Brnwna is a hitman for the mob, with a genius for violence, a well-earned fear of sharks, and an overly close relationship with the Federal Witness Relocation Program. More likely to leave a trail of dead gangsters than a molecule of evidence, he’s the last person you want to see in your hospital room.

Nicholas LoBrutto, aka Eddy Squillante, is Dr. Brown’s new patient, with three months to live and a very strange idea: that Peter Brown and Pietro Brnwa might-just might-be the same person …

Now, with the mob, the government, and death itself descending on the hospital, Peter has to buy time and do whatever it takes to keep his patients, himself, and his last shot at redemption alive. To get through the next eight hours-and somehow beat the reaper.

Spattered in adrenaline-fueled action and bone-saw-sharp dialogue, BEAT THE REAPER is a debut thriller so utterly original you won’t be able to guess what happens next, and so shockingly entertaining you won’t be able to put it down.

MY REVIEW

Beat the Reaper is the type of book that you will gulp down quickly so you can find out what crazy thing is going to happen next. What a ride the author Josh Bazell takes us on. That ride includes a doctor who is in the eyewitness protection program, the mob, a beautiful girl and a bad guy by the name of “Skinflick.” What else Beat the Reaper has is a lot of profanity and violence. Normally, this is the type of book that doesn’t appeal to me, but underneath all of the dark aspects is a man trying to find redemption and some peace from his past. And it is hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud quite a bit. Another appealing aspect of “Beat the Reaper” are the footnotes. They are an added treat. As I was reading, I could definitely see the movie easily in my mind. The day after I finished, I read that Leonardo Dicaprio is set to star in the movie. I hope it turns out as good as the book. One more tip before you read the book, and you should read it – The last few pages are so shocking and will make you squirm, so be prepared to either skim over them or be grossed out. Once you start reading you won’t want to stop, so make sure you clear your schedule for that day.  Oh, and ignore the awful book cover.

Stop and Shop for Healthy Ideas

stop-and-shop

Feeding a family of four healthy food can be challenging.  “Healthy” grocery stores make things easy by stocking only items that are good for you, however, the prices are often high, and not budget friendly.  Our local grocery store, Stop & Shop, has been working hard to make choosing healthy foods easier.

Stop & Shop’s new Healthy Ideas program features a “healthy ideas” symbol that is placed on over 3,000 items in the store.  It makes it easy to shop for healthy foods without having to dissect the label.  Stop & Shop considers calories, fat, cholesterol, and sodium content in their criteria for labeling items as healthy.  In addition, they offer healthy recipes, and healthy “swaps” — foods that can easily be swapped to make a meal healthier.

To learn more about the Healthy Ideas program visit their website at www.stopandshop.com. Thanks to Mom Central for the information.

nekFIT iPod Sportband Giveaway

January 26, 2009 by Tracy

nekfit

The nekFIT is a fantastic workout innovation that I had to try to truly appreciate.  I love my iPod, but I am always annoyed at the dangling wires getting in the way.  I like to wear my iPod when I do dishes to make the time go faster, but the hanging wires always get in the way and sometimes even get wet.   The nekFit has completely solved that problem.  If you look at the picture, you can see how the wires wrap around the band that goes around your neck and solves the problem.  I have a shuffle and I didn’t have a problem putting it into the nekFIT. It felt comfortable on my shoulders behind my neck and I easily forgot it was there.  I had a bit of trouble changing the songs, but my shuffle has small buttons.  Overall I would definitely recommend the nekFit, especially right now because it is on sale at Amazon for $28.00.  I guarantee you will be the trendsetter when you wear the nekFit out to the gym.

Features

  • No more dangling wires

  • Crystal clear hard case

  • Hand free movement

  • Alternative to armband

  • Good for any physical activity

  • Change music tracks with just a tap of your finger

Book Review: Tiny Toes by Kelly Damon

January 25, 2009 by Tracy

tiny

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Tiny Toes is a personal story of a couple struggling to create a family. The author tackles the effects of infertility, including how it almost destroyed her marriage. She illustrates the emotional trials of having a premature baby and how that, too, impacted her soul and her marriage.
She also demonstrates how she was able to overcome the depression that was keeping her from her own joy. The impact of infertility can extend to the soul of your very being. Watching your baby struggle to survive each day is not something any parent should have to endure. Yet, every day 1 in 9 babies are born too soon. Postpartum depression is being acknowledged as a disorder that occurs fairly frequently. Women who experience infertility and/or the premature birth of a child are more likely to encounter some form of depression than are women who have healthy pregnancies.  This story details the emotional trails of these complex life occurrences. In the end you’ll see the transformation of the author and you will be moved by her journey.

Kelly Damon is both an author and a speaker. Her first book, Tiny Toes: A Couple’s Journey Through Infertility, Prematurity, and Depression has received a 5 Star review and was a Finalist in the Arizona Book Publishing Association’s 2008 GLYPH Awards. She has since authored many articles on infertility and premature birth and contributes content to various blogs and websites. In addition, she has created ebooks for couples who are at the beginning of their infertility journey.

MY REVIEW

Reading Tiny Toes was stepping into a foreign world that I knew nothing about. That world being infertility. I know women who struggle with it, but never the intimate details that author Kelly Damon writes about. She bravely bares her heart and soul into the struggles she faced while trying to get pregnant. Damon doesn’t leave out the ugly details, including her jealousy over other pregnancies, her resulting marriage problems, and her feelings about her in-laws treatment. When she finally does get pregnant, her journey only gets more difficult when their twin girls are born premature. “Tiny Toes” is a difficult story to read because of the subject matter, but ultimately it is a story of hope and inspiration that other women, especially those that have struggled with infertility, should pick up to read.
You can purchase Tiny Toes” on the author’s website www.twinpeas.com or Amazon.

“No More Naked Popcorn” Giveaway

January 23, 2009 by Tracy
Filed under FOOD REVIEWS, Product Giveaways

popcorn2

One of the biggest challenges to healthy eating is between-meal snacking. Popcorn, a whole grain food that’s low in calories, is a great snack food that’s economical and also fun to eat. We are HUGE popcorn eaters in my family. One of my fondest memories of childhood was looking forward to Friday nights, because my mom would cook (on the stove) a big pot of popcorn and then we would settle in to watch a movie. KERNALSEASONS has a line of yummy Popcorn Seasonings to add some kick to your Popcorn. They have everything from Butter, Kettle Korn, Nacho Chedder, Ranch and much more!  We were so tickled to try some of their flavors and my favorite is Sour Cream. My husband is a Ranch fanatic and the kids love the White Cheddar and Butter. Tip: You can use the seasonings for other food too, we love it on potatoes.

One cup of popped popcorn, eaten plain, contains:
24 calories
1 gram of protein
6 grams carbohydrates
1 gram fiber

Keeping healthy snacks on hand is important for the whole family, especially with childhood obesity on the rise. “Popcorn is one of the best snack foods around. It’s low in calories and high in fiber which makes it a healthy, nutritious choice for between-meal snacking for kids and adults,” says Elizabeth M. Ward, registered dietitian and author of The Pocket Idiot’s Guide to the New Food Pyramids. Sprinkling popcorn with herbs or other seasonings is a fun way to add flavor without adding extra fat and calories. Children love to mix and match a variety of flavors to create their own healthy popcorn creations.

popcorn1

Ideas include: Spray popcorn with low-fat cooking oil such as Kernel Season’s Popcorn Spritzer, sprinkle with Kernel Season’s toppings such as flavors as White Cheddar, Nacho Cheddar, Butter, Ranch and Kettle Corn. Add raisins and dried fruits for variation on trail mix. Sprinkle popcorn with Kernel Season’s Chocolate Marshmallow flavor to enjoy with a cup of hot chocolate. Consider popcorn as a healthy alternative to more fattening desserts by adding Kernel Season’s Apple Cinnamon, Caramel or Kettle Corn flavors. Because popcorn is a good source of fiber it provides many health benefits and is often recommended by health and medical associations including The National Cancer Institute, The American Dietetic Association and The American Dental Association. Popcorn is healthy for the wallet, too. One cup of plain popcorn costs only pennies. (For example, Kernel Season’s popcorn costs between 12-14 cents per cup). Kick off the New Year with healthy eating habits that are easy and fun. Adding wholesome snacks like popcorn to the family diet is one resolution that everyone can keep.

KERNAL SEASON’S, headquartered in Elk Grove Village, IL, is the number one popcorn seasoning in the country. The flavors are all natural blends made with real cheese and are offered at more than 20,000 movie theater screens nationwide as a free shake-on topping. They may be purchased for home use at more than 18,000 grocery stores across America including Wal-Mart, Target, K Mart, Blockbuster Video, Safeway and Food Lion. Kernel Season’s products and popcorn accessories can be purchased at www.NoMoreNakedPopcorn.com. You can buy four and get one seasoning free for only $15.96 on their website. The website also has other web offers, recipes, and a Kernals Club.

KERNALSEASONS has generously sent me some extra Popcorn Seasonings to share with you! YUM! I love to give away the products that I enjoy. One person will win a three pack of popcorn seasonings. The flavors are Ranch, Nacho Cheddar and Kettle Corn.

Nickelodeon Brings Children’s Book “Olivia” To Television

January 22, 2009 by Tracy

olivia_hr_09

We LOVE Nick Jr.in our house, because they develop educational and quality shows for children. Their brand new show, Olivia, is no exception. Nickelodeon welcomes one of the world’s most beloved literary characters to its preschool line-up with the launch of OLIVIA on Monday, Jan. 26, at 11:30 a.m. (ET/PT), followed by a week of brand-new episodes. Preschoolers will love this endearing character and her family.  Olivia has a big imagination and her adventures are a joy to watch. Kids will also relate to Olivia’s relationship with her younger brother Ian, especially in the first episode when Olivia realizes Ian will eventually grow taller then her. Moms will love Olivia because the parents give Olivia and her brother encouragement and a positive spirit in which to grow.

Olivia believes she can do anything and sees every day as an opportunity to try new things. Olivia’s real life revolves around her friends, family and school, while her vivid imagination takes her everywhere from Egypt, the Wild West and outer space, to a pirate adventure and a concert hall.  She is a pillar of self-confidence and enthusiasm promoting independent thinking, ingenuity and persistence. “OLIVIA is a show where the ordinary meets the extraordinary, and we’ve worked closely with the team at Nickelodeon to bring Olivia’s world to life,” said Megan Laughton, Supervising Producer for the OLIVIA series at Chorion. “Olivia’s imagination takes her all over the world, but her daily interactions with family and friends will resonate with children everywhere.”

The premiere episode of OLIVIA will feature the following stories:

Olivia Measures Up” – After Olivia teases her younger brother Ian for being too short for a ride, Father mentions that some day Ian may be the taller sibling.  Olivia employs a variety of comical methods to stop Ian from growing.  She eventually comes to terms with her own height – with the help of a great pair of shoes.

Olivia Plays Hotel” – When school is let out early due to snow, Julian and Francine come over to Olivia’s house.  Olivia has the perfect game for them –Hotel!  She transforms her house into a make-believe hotel, but then some strange things start to happen.  Does the hotel have ghosts, or is Ian just playing tricks on them?

olivia_hr_001

The first OLIVIA picture book by Falconer was published in 2000 to rave reviews. Since that time, Falconer has been the recipient of numerous awards and the Simon & Schuster book series has sold an impressive six million copies worldwide in 20 languages.
