A young noblewoman marries into one of Britain’s most powerful families and becomes the toast of London in The Duchess, arriving on DVD and Blu-ray fashionably timed for the new year and holiday entertainment on December 28th from Paramount Home Entertainment. Keira Knightley (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean), Ralph Fiennes (In Bruges, the Harry Potter series, The Constant Gardener) and Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia!) star in the true story of the Duchess of Devonshire and “Empress of Fashion” who must face an agonizing choice between responsibility and love. Captivating audiences and critics alike with its gripping and passionate tale of a young woman and direct ancestor to Princess Diana who became a fashion icon, a devoted mother, a voice for the common man and an unforgettable symbol of glamour for the ages, “The Duchess is feisty, cool, and scandalous” (Richard Schickle, Time). Showcasing rich and in-depth special features, The Duchess will be available for the suggested retail priced of $19.99 U.S./$24.99 Canada on DVD and on Blu-ray for $29.99 U.S./$36.99 Canada.
One of history’s most beguiling leading ladies, Georgiana Spencer (Keira Knightley) was married at 17 to the wealthy and influential William Cavendish (Ralph Fiennes), the fifth Duke of Devonshire — and into a lavish world filled with shocking deceptions, decadent scandals and stifling demands of duty. As Duchess of Devonshire, she first indulged her considerable energy in high society — outshining most of the aristocratic men around her with her incredible wit — only to become one of the most impassioned political voices in all of 18th century Britain. Beloved by a nation but betrayed by her husband, Georgiana’s charisma, political savvy and distinct flair for fashion would make her the “It Girl” of her era… but a chance for personal happiness would remain elusive until she dares to discover love on her own terms.

North and South was really good.
Pride and Predjudice, Interview With A Vampire and North and South are my favorite historical movies. Thanks!
I’m a subscriber. Thanks!
I have a fondness for the scarlet pimpernel.
I love “The Last of the Mohicans.”
One of my favorite historical fiction movies is
Dr. Zhivago, which takes place during the Russian Revolution.
I’m a subscriber too.
I love Marie Antoinette. Thanks!
I like Plunkett and Macleane but it wasn’t based on actual historical events . It was a lot of fun though.
I love Elizabeth: The Golden Age. She was such an amazing and fascinating woman!
I’d pick “Legends of the Fall” if that counts and in close second “The Piano.”
Pride & Prejudice is my favorite.
The Man In The Iron Mask.
i’d really love this dvd!
Master and Commander — a fine but under-rated movie starring Russell Crow
My all time favorite is Dangerous Liaisons. What a fantastic movie. I have been dying to see The Duchess as well it never made it to my small town theater.
Anne of Green Gables. I haven’t seen The Duchess but I want to.
I’d have to say historical fiction is my favorite book genre. Two of my favorites are definitely “Gone with the Wind” and “Last of the Mohicans” (that is actually one of my husband’s favorites as well. Probably one of the few movies we both love the same.
I love the Pride and Prejudice version with Keira Knightly. it makes me want to see The Duchess.
I gotta say King Arthur, though Pride and Prejudice is a close second.
My favorite historical fiction movies are: “Gone With the Wind,” “Titanic,” “Adventures of Robin Hood” (Errol Flynn), “The Lion in Winter” (P. O’Toole), and “Shakespeare in Love”.
I loved Tess (although is was extremely long.)

I like the Marie Antoinette film with Kirsten Dunst, but I can’t remember the name right now!
Gone With The Wind is my all-time favorite, but I also enjoyed The Other Boleyn Girl, North and South, The Blue and the Gray and The Winds of War.
Hands down it would be Vincent & Theo : a 1990 biographical drama is an exploration of the relationship between Vincent van Gogh and his art dealer brother, Theo.
It was a 4 hour mini series they cut down to a 2 hour movie.
I love the longer version.
It is such an interesting combination of genus, master artist Verses his own mental illness.
Brilliant & spellbinding!
Van Gogh battled his need for self mulation & his insanity all the while creating art as if God himself moved his hands.
The relationship with his brother is explored along with the society norms of that time.

It’s kind of a toss-up between Gone with the Wind and Henry V (Ken Branagh’s version). Both are really great epic films. I’d love to see The Duchess — it sounds like a fascinating story.

the other boleyn girl was really good! i found Amazing Grace amusing (just because it was done so badly)
I recently saw that HBO miniseries “John Adams” and it totally blew me away!! It seemed so authentic, like a porthole to look back in time.
Ghandi blew me away.
Oh, wait, you wanted historical FICTION. (Ghandi doesn’t qualify.) In that case, Gone with the Wind.
