YA Book Nominees Spotlight

I LOVE YA blogs!  In fact every one of these blogs below inspired me to start reading YA books again.  And I love them even though I am a bit “ahem” older.  I started YA Mondays here on my blog as a result.  They are inspiring with all the work they do to share and encourage teens and even adults to read YA books.  Here are the nominees for Best YA Book Blog

I love  The Book Muncher’s name and am also very impressed with the lovely green design.  The Book Muncher has ton’s of thoughtful, informative and critical reviews.   Apart from her blog, the Book Muncher also keeps up an impressive listing of current YA contests… who doesn’t love a free book?   I found an interview that she recently participated in and here is what she had to say as to why she blogs.   I’ve always been an avid reader and liked to discuss my opinion on the books I read. But it wasn’t until December of last year when I realized I could but that to good use. That was when I stumbled upon a couple of book reviewing blogs, The Page Flipper and Book Chic. So, with a little help from Chelsea (The Page Flipper) and a hunger for books, The Book Muncher was born. I started with no previous experience whatsoever, but now I get to do what I love (and the free books are just another plus!)  Those are lots of great reasons to visit and add this one to you’re google reader!

I wish I could show you her header it is darling, but you will just have to go there to see yourself.  I also love her bio she describes herself in this way.    Librarian. Okay, okay. Uber-librarian. Minus the MLS. That might happen. Someday.  I grew up in a small town in Maine — so small that by the time I was twelve, I’d read most of the books in the local library. So small that up until sixth grade, my class only had twelve kids in it.   I’m not a writer — that should be abundantly clear — I’m a reader. I don’t review books critically and objectively, I respond to them personally and from my gut. So beware. Highbrow intellectual critiques do not live here.  And right now she is reading A Tale of Two Cities by posting chapters on her blog and encouraging others to read this wonderful classic!  How cool is that?  She is now officially added to my list of blogs to read!

The Page Flipper  is a lovely blogger who is doing an AWESOME thing coming up.  I am going to post what she says on her blog about it and invite all of you to participate along with me.  We have a fantasticfabulousamazing event running on both mine and Lauren’s blogs from October-December, and we’re hard at work organizing everything. We’re going to be holding a charity event called Leave a Mark, auctioning off “marked up” copies of author’s books. Tons of authors are participating, writing notes and post-its all throughout copies of their books.  They’ll be auctioned off on both of our blogs throughout these months, and believe me, you WON’T want to miss it.  The best part is that 100% of the proceeds are going to First Book, a charity that provides low-income families with books. The winners of the auctions will donate directly to the First Book website, sending us a confirmation email before we ship off their book.
So. Save your money. There are a ton of well-known authors and celebrities participating. (If you’re an author wanting to participate, we’ve still got some spots open, so feel free to email Lauren or I — thepageflipper@yahoo.com or lauren51990@aol.com)  On a personal note,  I (Bookroomreviews) used to work in social work and my agency received books from First Book,  I got to hand them out to the low income children and they LOVE new books since they almost never have the chance to get them!  So rock on girls!  I am impressed!

Presenting Lenore

Presenting Lenore’s tagline is Work, Life, Travel and Books.  I am an avid reader of her blog.  She has thoughtful, informative reviews and tons of amazing contests.  She is a passionate advocate for the books and authors she loves and she has an adorable cat Emmy that is a staple on her blog.  Here is what she says about herself on her blog.  I love to read, review and write books (see all posts with BOOKS label). I love to travel (see all posts with TRAVEL label). I do enjoy my work as an advertising copywriter (see all posts with WORK label). And I do write some about my adventures (and Daniel’s) in Germany for the benefit of all my friends and family around the world who like to keep up with what we’re doing (see all posts with LIFE label).

The Story Siren is a popular blogger.  And no wonder,   her site is colorful and fun.  She is also a sweetie.  I loved her idea of using pictures with reviews and e-mailed her asking if I could steal borrow her idea.  She very genrously said it was a compliment and to go ahead.  So obviously I am a fan of her blog for her wonderful reviews and the forum she started for teens to chat about the books they are reading.  She always has tons of author interviews and book contests.  Here is how she describes her blog.  A Siren by definition is a device that makes a loud signal, or if you refer to Greek Mythology a siren can be referred to a mermaid or a winged creature whose singing lured sailors onto rocks. As a Story Siren, I hope to signal others to books that I think are worthwhile, and possibly lure them into reading them!  I primarily read young adult novels, but I enjoy all genres of writing. Most of the reviews you will find here are YA with a few Adult titles mixed in.
