So You Think You Can Dance
Another form of storytelling that I love besides books is dance. How bodies can move to tell a story is such a gift and I admire dancers. One show my husband and I watch obsessively every summer is “So You Think You Can Dance.” Last night a young couple danced a beautiful story that I wanted to share. The dance was choreographed by a married couple whose daughter suffers from Rett Syndrome. There was some controversy as to whether the young girl dancing should have smiled so much. One judge didn’t think she interpreted the dance correctly. The other two judges disagreed. I agreed with the two judges. The choreographer explained that dancing makes his daughter so happy she smiles and I felt the dancer was showing the daughter’s pure joy she must feel when she watches dancers. One moment in the routine that is truly touching is when the male dancer cradles her in his arms, I could feel the father’s love for his daughter. You can watch the video above and see what you think. “So You Think You Can Dance” airs on Fox on Wednesdays and Thursdays. You can read more about the disease of Rett Syndrome here
